Conversations with Markeisha Tonoi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Markeisha Tonoi

Hi Markeisha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
From a young age, I was hooked on makeover shows and dreamt of becoming a Makeup Artist. After high school, I decided to follow my passion and went to Beauty School. With my Esthetics license in hand, I started my career in makeup artistry—but soon discovered the world of eyelash extensions. That’s when I opened Mezmereyez by Tonoi, a luxury lash salon that I ran for over 10 years.

While running my salon was amazing, I felt a shift. I wanted to reconnect with makeup and pivoted into it, but this time, my way: focusing on creating natural, timeless looks. I wanted to be an artist where the client’s features were in mind. I did not like the trend of heavy makeup that masked the woman but more elevated and highlighted what was already there.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

Intentionally creating a business celebrating woman and the beauty of her God given image in a time where more is better and less is least has been difficult because many follow trends, that’s what gets people booked and busy but I wanted to create an artistry where simply accentuating what is already there: timeless beauty was always the goal.

I have vowed to stay true to myself and missed out on opportunities that weren’t right for me and my business.

This has not been a smooth road to say the least. I have hit many roadblocks but each one, elevated me vs crushed me.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Makeup Artist and Educator with a passion for intimate bridal and event makeup. My primary focus is enhancing natural beauty, I also specialize in teaching makeup techniques and product knowledge. My mission is to help women feel confident by revealing the true beauty that often lies beneath the surface.

As both a Makeup Artist and Educator, I offer personalized, one on one makeup lessons designed to not only highlight each woman’s unique features, but address and care for her concerns as well. My goal is to help every woman embrace her God given beauty and feel radiant inside and out.

My saying is “Make Natural Glam A Thing.” and I strive to do that with every single woman in my chair. It’s my reminder that makeup should enhance, not mask, a woman’s natural beauty. I believe we are witnessing a return to a more authentic, effortless approach to beauty, and I take great pride in being at the forefront of this movement.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
If I wasn’t a makeup artist I would be a mentor of some sort to young woman, sharing how to love themselves.
