Conversations with Maryann Roberts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maryann Roberts.
Hi Maryann, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Born and raised in Staten Island, New York, I moved to La Jolla in 2009 and I am a professional matchmaker at Three Day Rule Matchmaking.

My nephew Marc Roberts (RIP) first introduced me to life in beautiful San Diego. Marc was a chiropractor at Inner Balance Chiropractic with Dr. Tim Shanahan who continues to serve the health needs of San Diegans from his office in Hillcrest.

I feel Marc’s spirit here. I love this city and I feel I have the balance in life I was looking for. I moved my mom here in 2015 and she is a spry 97 years old! The climate is amazing for super seniors like her too!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Grateful to say that my time with Three Day Rule has been pretty much nothing but smooth sailing. I joined at a time when the team was growing but had years of experience and a large network.

Of course, as with all businesses, the pandemic threw off our equilibrium for a moment. We did have to adjust our practices and learn to be creative during the pandemic for sure. Zoom dates became really popular as did online speed dating, but we soon found that singles were more motivated than ever to make connections – and watching love happen in a time of so much struggle was a wonderful silver lining.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

I am a professional matchmaker at Three Day Rule Matchmaking, a nationwide white-glove Matchmaking service for busy professionals. I helped launch the San Diego market 2.5 years ago as my team knew that San Diego was filled with dynamic, professional singles who would benefit from our services!
I was curious at a young age about romantic relationships. I was influenced by my parents who were happily married in 1944.

I witnessed the importance my parents each placed on their marriage. They were really in sync as a couple through good times and bad. Extreme opposites in so many ways, it just worked between them. Chemistry was something they always had together and I took notice of that. I wanted to find that for myself and for my friends.
In my 20’s I worked at a fitness club in New Jersey and I arranged a blind date between my friend and a man who signed up for a gym membership with me. They wound up getting married and it was the first time I felt the joy of matchmaking!

A few years ago, when thinking of a career change, I read Find a Husband after 35 by Rachel Greenwald as well as her book Have Him at Hello. I read Make Me A Match by Lisa Clampitt.
Matchmaking is not something any of us necessarily have a degree in but we all possess a similar skill set. I felt connected to these authors and started looking for job opportunities. I am so fortunate to have found Three Day Rule – it’s a female-led company with a strong mission and I truly love my job!

Our founder; Talia Goldstein, has put together an amazing team of matchmakers across the US who have a natural passion for connecting people as I do. I am thrilled to be part of the Three Day Rule #dreamteam.
2.5 years after joining I have set up hundreds of dates and made tons of successful matches – I’m grateful I took the leap.

To get started working with me as a client or simply to join our private free database and be matched to our clients, you just have to fill out this form www.threedayrule.com/pool/maryann and I will reach out to you for follow up with you to activate your profile.

I am so excited to have just attended the wedding in Silicon Valley of two of our clients in May 2022 who I matched in the Spring of 2021. This is really what we live for as matchmakers: seeing the engagements, the long-term relationships, weddings, and babies being born never gets old!

What do you like and dislike about the city?

People in San Diego are so friendly. When you wake up in the morning it is really hard to be in a bad mood when you look outside your door. It is such a beautiful place with gorgeous weather, sandy beaches, crashing waves, stars and the moon shining at night, palms to cool you, and amazing flowers blooming. Having access to the sand and the snow on the same day is a wonderful part of living here! Family and friends always love to visit our city since we offer so many things for them to do on their vacation.

I am always excited to meet a new friend who was born and raised here and lives near their family. That feels more like what I am used to from the east coast.
San Diego has always felt like a place where people come to live for a while or may come back to it but may not stay for a variety of reasons. I have made so many great friends and have had to say goodbye for now.
