Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Park.
Hi Megan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We moved to San Diego 3 years ago for my husband’s job in the Marine Corps. Originally from North Carolina, I never really envisioned myself on the west coast, but absolutely love San Diego and find the people and scenery exceptional. Because my husband is military, having a career and making friends in every new city has always been a challenge…one that I try to embrace. My full-time job is a Vice President of Business Development for MAG Aerospace, where I work in government contracting leading large captures and proposals for various government contracts. This position is primarily remote and requires me to travel quite frequently. As such, integrating into the local community requires me to push myself outside of my 9-5 to find my “community”. Teaching barre and yoga has always been my “side hustle” and one of my passions. When I moved to San Diego, I knew I had to find the right studio that fit my personality and teaching style. I was lucky enough to get hired on by Spirit Barre in Pacific Beach. Through Spirit Barre, I also combined my passion for animals and yoga to regularly teach “puppy yoga” classes with various rescues in San Diego. Through Puppy Yoga, I found Baja Paws, a local foster-based animal rescue in San Diego. I jumped in starting as a foster and now I am the Events Coordinator, Adoption Specialist, and take on any other role that I can jump into to help save cats and dogs in Baja California and Mexico.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a military spouse, a stepmom to two kiddos, working full time, and moving every few years has certainly been very challenging. Have a career as a military spouse sometimes feels impossible, as your job always comes second. But I truly believe in embracing the challenges. If it wasn’t for the lifestyle we lead, I would have never landed in San Diego and would have never found Spirit Barre or Baja Paws Rescue. So much of life is based on your mindset. If you act like a victim of your circumstances through a negative lense, you will never fully experience happiness. Life is a gift, and I am grateful to be here, exploring all the ways I can leave a lasting impact on those around me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Vice President of Business Development in Multi-Domain Operations Business Unit at MAG Aerospace
I am one of the few female executives at my company and I am known for my work ethic and passion. Although I am rarely the smartest person in the room, I understand the value of teamwork, utilizing the resources available to you, and rolling up your sleeves to figure out solutions to\ problems. Attitude is everything. Find a way to “yes”
I became a vice president at 39 years old and I’m very proud to have hit that milestone at a young age.
And of course I love my time teaching barre and yoga as well as volunteering for Baja Paws Rescue. 🙂
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Collaboration and teamwork is everything! Specifically for Baja Paws Rescue, I encourage others to take time to find their passions and help those in need, whether it’s animals, children, etc. There are so many ways you can support others.
As a female business professional, I’m always looking for ways to collaborate, mentor, and work together to forge lasting partnerships and friendships
