Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Gutenplan.
Hi Michael, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
It’s a fascinating story! As a kid, I always loved magic and would always put on little shows. My grandfather loved magic and would also put on shows for the grandkids. Cut to… one day while I was in college in Pittsburgh (Carnegie Mellon) I walked into a magic shop and asked to buy a trick my grandfather did. I learned the secret and was hooked.
I performed all through college – devouring as much info and education as I could – and eventually performed in my own off-Broadway show “Extraordinary Deceptions.” It got rave reviews including a fabulous NYTimes review and then I moved to LA to work in the exciting world of TV development. I still performed here and there but it was almost 15 years of full-time TV work that I woke up one day and decided to do something else. I figured I’d do magic while I discovered what was next, and discovered that magic was it.
The universe works in weird ways and if we listen to it, we’ll be guided exactly where we need to be. I was talking to my grandfather about my work in the psychic stuff – and he encouraged me to put it in the show. It was on that call that I realized that I am a third-generation psychic and needed to share ESP with the world.
Now I travel the country performing mind-reading mentalism shows, strolling magic (because I love it!), and reading palms! It’s a privilege and a pleasure to give someone an incredible and unforgettable experience!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Once I started listening to the universe and letting it guide me it’s been smooth sailing.

I am a third-generation psychic. My show is all about the audience’s experience. I believe that everyone has abilities they don’t know about and my show is designed to Unlock Your Psychic Potential.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Honesty. Compassion. And a firm understanding that I am giving someone a once-in-a-lifetime experience – so I must respect their time and presence.
