Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike One.
Hi Mike, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My passion for music was born when I purchased my first midi controller and beat software. I didn’t know what I was doing exactly but I knew I really enjoyed making beats.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a series of ups and downs but it’s really helped shape my overall sound. The struggles of putting myself out there, trying out new things, not being afraid of going back to the drawing board, have all been part of the process. The toughest part is finding balance and consistency day in and out, regardless of the outcome.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a hip hop producer that specializes in using the classic MPC2500. I’m known for flipping samples in creative ways to make a whole new vibe. I’m most proud of my creative process, working mostly in my beat machine. What I feel sets me apart is my ability to play beats live all from my MPC in a way known as “finger drumming”. It’s a live performance all triggered in real time.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I believe it’s best to get out and go to the events where your interests are shared with others. In these events opportunities to meet like minded individuals and/or build a greater community. This is what I believe helped me get more exposure and experience.
