Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Ruggirello.
Hi Mike, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started teaching guitar in 1996 just because I have a passion for guitar and always have been in bands and riding my own songs. In 2005 I became a professional teacher and taught a guitar trainer for nine years unfortunately they close down and Mark Langford from Rock and Roll San Diego hired me so I worked for him for one year in 2016. I went solo and started working at my house under a different monitor in 2019 I created the brand, MR Guitar Lessons.
I have been recognized by a publicist named Bart Mendoza who has written many articles on me in various San Diego publications such as local umbrella and the San Diego reader. My neighborhood has recognized me as well for the local University Heights Newspaper.
I specialize in teaching children and songwriters. I have extensive training and have worked with some of the best in my industry. I currently maintain at least 30 to 35 students a week and offer a multitude of learning mediums here at my curated studio.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have decided to make myself stand out compared to my competition and one of the unique differences is that I have my own signature product. I proudly have my own signature Guitar pic through Purpl Plectrum and I have my own 6 foot cable through Mad Hatter Guitar Prod.. I also have an invention through Madhatter that is simply a volume knob on the electric guitar that when you push it, it turns into a boost.
My pics and cables both come in five different colors and aside from signature product. I offer a parking spot and I give all of my students the code to my security gate so they can wait comfortably in the waiting area of my backyard.
Believing in the craft and doing an exceptional job, making people feel happy is the name of the game. I’m friends with a lot of my competition and we all care about serving our city and ushering in the next generation of rock ‘n’ roll rollers.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am known for my social media presence, I used to host a show called theory Thursday where I have 170 episodes under my belt so my studio is a full production media lab. I haven’t been focusing on that lately. It’s just been teaching and then I’m also an artist where I write my own songs for my band Rotten Cabal Logo, which Ben Moore my engineer is essentially my fifth BAND MEMBER so I took the focus off of interviewing musicians about their life and focused on my own life and that’s why my social media presence is scarce lately, but I have a patriot account where people support me on that when they don’t come over here physically to Take lessons and then I provide a lot of private videos for my students so they have handwritten worksheets and video notes to practice their homework on
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love San Diego because I’m born and raised here and being a staple in my community is very important to me. I love offering my time to people and children and watching them. Learn how to play guitar.
Since I work from home and I don’t sit in traffic, I can’t think of one thing I don’t like about San Diego other than maybe the groceries are getting expensive but due to loving life and being positive and generally a happy person I’m OK with the price of eggs
