Conversations with Mikey Kettinger

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikey Kettinger

Hi Mikey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been an artist since I was old enough to control a crayon. Always creating for my own amusement. I’ve been showing my artwork in galleries since I was 19, studied art collegiately with the aid of merit-based scholarships and I opened my own art studio/art school last year. In October, we will celebrate our one year anniversary in Leucadia. It’s an absolute dream to have a unique creative art space where I can fulfill my purpose in life of producing art and helping others do the same.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a fun, winding, hilly road. Stubborn optimism guides me through. Being a professional artist, leader and educator is my purpose and there is no backup plan for me. Smoothness of the road is irrelevant at this point.
A recurring struggle that myself and many artists have encountered is the opportunity to show and sell work in front of audiences that care. I solved this problem by creating my own space to show my work and to show the work of other artists. I host a monthly art show at my art studio with several featured artists, music, DJs, and art-making activities for all.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a conceptual artist and art educator. My sense of community and leadership is what sets me apart. I created an inspirational art studio in the heart of Leucadia that welcomes other professional artists, hobby artists of all ages and skill levels, and people looking to build community. I consider my art studio to be an interactive art installation, and it is my greatest masterpiece.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
You can create your own opportunities. Leading is more valuable than following.
