Today we’d like to introduce you to Milania, Sophia, Leyla and Bianca LaZarte. Them and their team share their story with us below:
The LaZarte sisters consist of 4 girls, Milania age 11, Sophia age 8, Leyla age 6, and Bianca age 4. Milania and Sophia started their BJJ journey 4 years ago, little did they know then how much this sport was going to mean to them. Soon after their younger sisters Leyla and Bianca started once they were old enough to join their BJJ academy. These girls train 6 days a week multiple hours a day and Milania and Sophia also do wresting 2 days a week. They travel all over close and far to tournaments California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Texas, Florida and more! These girls are fully dedicated to their craft and absolutely love what they do!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
At such a young age, these girls have faced many obstacles and challenges. All girls have had to missed birthday parties, after school activities, and had to tell their friends multiple times “no” when they would come knocking on the door asking if they could play. Milania and Sophia train 6 days a week BJJ for multiple hours, 2 days a week of wrestling, and they always are traveling for tournaments on the weekend all on top of being full time students! Also, because the girls are in a sport that have weight requirements there’s been multiple times when the girls had to say no to cupcakes at school for a classmates birthday. Saying no to sweets is a huge challenge for kids! Just recently Milania and Sophia had to be on strict diets to make weight for Jiu-Jitsu World League in San Diego! The LaZarte sister’s parents fully let the girls make their own decisions and support them no matter what. The girls always choose BJJ at the end of the day. The girls are dedicated to BJJ and know that they have goals they want done and that it’s not an easy road. They are preparing themselves for a long journey that requires, focus, putting in your 100%, and discipline. No matter the obstacles or challenges the girls have each other to help.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The LaZarte sister’s are Jiu-Jitsu athletes. Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art sport based on ground fighting and submission holds. Milania goes by “Filipina Assassin” and Sophia goes by “Savage”. Their fight names explains their Jiu-Jitsu styles! Sophia had her first ever super fight in November for Jitzking and she was able to submit her opponent to secure the win. This was the proudest moment in Sophia’s Jiu-Jitsu journey. She was training super hard and taking extra lessons to win this fight. This fight really proved to her that hard work, dedication, and putting in your 100% will help you reach your goals. This was Sophia’s biggest match and accomplishment. It was her first televised fight. After securing her win she was able to get some sponsors for not just herself but her sisters too. Now both Milania and Sophia are having super fights in March for Jitzking and are training extra hard and are more focus then ever.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The LaZarte sisters have multiple gold medals and trophies because they train hard, stay dedicated to their plan, strive to be better every day, stay positive, support each other, fix their errors, and trust the process. This is why these girls are able to accomplish so much at such a young age.
