Today we’d like to introduce you to Mischif
Mischif, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When versatility and a sultry sound collide you get Me, Mischif, a rising artist from the inner city of San Diego, CA. Over the years I managed to become a unique R&B sound in SoCal and various international markets. My sound has gained a reaction across the globe from fans, artists, and regional/international radio allowing me to show my range within my melodic ability. I started with music as a young kid being mentored by my old brother known as Hip Hop artist Pay Da Boy who passed away in 2019. During my journey as a youngin’ I was involved in many different aspects of music whether that being an artist, sound engineer, and media. I was 1/2 of San Diego’s Hip Hop group “Trackwide” who made a named across the city and other various regions. During that time our music earned us a San Diego Award Nomination, performances at places like SXSW, and an overall household name in San diego. While on this journey I respectfully became a solo artist that fell back in love with R&B and began solely creating R&B music. While perfecting my sound I dove into many roles in the music scene, most notably engineering and now videography. During my journey I’ve engineered for artist such as San Diego’s Rob Stone, while also filming artist like Rick Ross, Neyo, Blxst, Dom Kennedy and many more as a videographer. My passion as an artist has allowed me to create music with artist like QC affiliate Mark Battles, Soulection’s Abjo, Dutch producers Koen and Wantigga, and most recently John Givez on my new single “Black roses”. Til’ this day I am still pushing forward with my hand in many different pots and continuing to thrive as a part of the music and media community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think that anything that is constantly evolving and changing is a smooth process when you have been doing it for as long as I have lol so I would say yes and no. A lot of what I faced over the years stemmed from a lack of knowledge or access to knowledge. In my experience the San Diego music scene and infrastructure has had a ceiling that is recently starting to become an afterthought as creatives and artists break more barriers. Understanding the music industry, marketing, and acquiring funds to move correctly seemed to be behind hidden doors. As the social media and internet era evolves, the access to this information also has which made the bumpy road a little more smooth. On the media side my connections through music have helped the ride be much more smooth. I’ve learned a lot while in the field and have only gotten better over years.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am all things music lol but I would say my main focus is being an artist and growing within my videography journey. I specialize in R&B as my unique sound allows me to thrive in different sub genres within R&B. On the other hand my film style is very simpler and versatile. My ability to film in a cinematic way has allowed me to thrive fairly quick. Im most proud of just sticking to the plan, never giving up on my dreams, and making sure I am a better creative every step of the way.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I feel like the most important aspect to my success is continuing to be original and willing to learn from every situation. A lot of creatives that have been around for a while end up being surpassed because of the “all knowing” mentality. I’ve always thought you can learn from the novice as well as the experienced and that’s how I move. Respect is EVERYTHING.
