Conversations with Mitri Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mitri Jones.

Hi Mitri, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started treat decorating and party planning in 2014 for my niece’s 3rd birthday. I wanted to save some money on the desserts, so I decided to learn how to make them myself. I watched a lot of YouTube and practiced for a whole month straight until the big day. Everything came out perfect, and everyone loved it, so I decided to keep practicing. I did a lot of free desserts for friends and family, and by the beginning of 2015, I felt like my stuff was good enough to sell, so I started my business Mitri’s Delights. I didn’t plan for this to be my career; it just kind of happened. I realized that my family enjoyed seeing cute desserts at my events and that I wanted to bring that joy to other families.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Although doing what I love came easy, I’ve had a few struggles. I have to learn how to balance my business and family life every day. Time management and prioritizing only gets more difficult as business progresses, but I find a way to figure it out. I always take lots of pride in my business and my overall brand, but I’m a mom first so that’s where it gets a little sticky.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a home-based treat maker/event planner. I can customize your entire event, from the desserts to the venue decor. I’m most known for my desserts, and chocolate-covered strawberries are my specialty. I’ve recently began to offer balloon art, backdrops, and prop rentals to make any event pop. I’m most proud of being able to customize any theme that’s been given to me.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
My goal for the next 5-10 years is just to keep expanding. I want to have customers from all over San Diego. I hope to one day have a brick-and-mortar storefront…
