Conversations with Molly Thong and Kimberly Molin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Thong and Kimberly Molin.

Molly Thong and Kimberly Molin

Hi Molly and Kimberly, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We connected at work and discovered our shared passion for crafting. Noticing a lack of space for adults to come together and bond over this mutual interest, we organized our first MoMo Craft Club event in January 2024. After an evening filled with laughter, joy, and creativity, we recognized the significance of creating a space for individuals to connect with both their community and themselves. In order to keep our events accessible to everyone in the community, we welcome crafters at no cost. With the success of our first event, and the support of the crafting community, MoMo is about to celebrate our first anniversary!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We are incredibly fortunate to have the support of many community members. Before our first event, we were unsure what the outcome would be. With over 45 people showing up, we felt the immediate motivation to continue building MoMo Craft Club. Navigating event planning, marketing, and website creation has been a valuable learning experience, and we are grateful for the opportunity to grow, especially since we witness the positive impact it creates. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the local businesses that have supported our mission.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We both come from a nonprofit background and understand first hand the barriers people face when wanting to get involved in the community. MoMo Craft Club welcomes everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexuality, or religious background. Our events are free in an effort to making crafting accessible to all members of the community. Our goal is to uplift the community and create a safe, welcoming space for all.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
We believe our empathy and drive have brought MoMo Craft Club to where we are now. We began with the intention of connecting people and creating a safe space. Seeing the all the smiles and friendships forming at our first event, we knew we had to continue hosting events for our crafters. This fueled our drive to organize monthly events, each one growing larger than the last!
