Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Resendiz Ramírez.
Hi Nancy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello. Everything started when I was a surrogate for a family from Asia. After the baby was born and she had to go home to China I fell into depression because I had so many mixed emotions, I would cry every day for months. One day one of my friends asked me to help her find a home for her little puppies because her dog had just given birth to 5 little pups and she didn’t know what to do with them. I told my friend I would help her find them home, so she brought 1 puppy to me first. The first puppy my friend brought over to my house was this tiny cute little doggie who weighted about 1/2 pound who I named Pokie. I foster little Pokie, and I was trying to find a home for her but the more time I spent with her the more I felt in love with, she was making me forget about my sadness would make me smile a lot, and would make me laugh because she was so tiny and very cute, she would ran all over my house, and we were 24/7 together, so she saved me from depression. To honor Pokie and thank her for what she had done for me, I stared rescuing strays from Baja and then Pokie&Friends Rescue was official. That’s how I started rescuing back in March 2021
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been easy at all. There have been over 100 dogs I have rescued from Baja, so I have spent many hours on the road finding this pups, I have to be at the veterinarian many hours to make sure this little ones are treated, and I have to find them the right home. It’s hard because we don’t really have foster homes and if I can’t find foster homes I can’t rescue as much. We also don’t get many donations, so we struggle sometimes.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Life Skills Job Coach. I work for a nonprofit organization, and we work with people with disabilities. I have been working with vulnerable populations for 20 years now, and I like it a lot. Lately, I been thinking of changing my career and focus more on rescuing and helping people who have dogs/cats get affordable veterinarian care because I know California can be expensive. I love doing this, and I will probably keep doing it. I am very proud of being the founder of Pokie&Friends Rescue because we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and that’s an accomplishment for me.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I find myself being very understanding of other people’s needs and am very friendly. I am easygoing, and most of all I love to help vulnerable humans and animals. I have been successful because I work well with other people, and I try to always be a person they count on.
