Conversations with Paige Freier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Freier.

Hi Paige, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My love for photography started when Instagram was first launched. I started taking photos on my phone and editing them. I was hooked. I would take photos everywhere I went. It was mostly street photography, abandoned buildings, and landscapes. I eventually worked my way up to a professional camera. My goal was to start taking photos of people. I love creative portraiture and capturing authentic moments. I am self-taught and so proud of how far I’ve come.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been an easy journey. I spent many years working as a restaurant manager and taking photos as a hobby. I worked through the pandemic and become so burnt out working such long hours. Photography was my passion and decided to quit managing. It was so scary to leave a stable job, but it was time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I absolutely love taking portraits, whether it’s in my home studio or outdoors in the many beautiful locations in San Diego. I adore taking photos of couples and capturing candid moments that showcase genuine emotions. My ability to connect with my clients is something I am super proud of. I love putting people at ease and creating an environment where they can let their guard down and be themselves.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am self-taught; when I started, I would ask my coworkers to pose for me. Almost all of the people in my portfolio are not models.
