Today we’d like to introduce you to Preston Roehrs
Preston, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Ten years ago, I decided to teach myself how to build guitars. It started as a passion project—just me, some tools, and a lot of trial and error. Over time, I poured countless hours into learning the craft, experimenting with designs, and refining my skills. Eventually, I launched my own brand, Roehrs Guitars, creating custom instruments for professional touring musicians. Each guitar was a unique piece of art, tailored to the needs of the player.
After several years of honing my skills, I joined Iconic Guitars in Carlsbad, CA, where I spent three incredible years. During my time there, I was deeply involved in designing and building high-end electric guitars that catered to demanding players. One of my proudest contributions was helping to develop the La Playa model, a guitar that balanced elegance, functionality, and tonal versatility. It was an incredible experience that helped me grow both as a craftsman and as a designer.
Now, a decade after I built my first guitar, I’m proud to be part of Taylor Guitars, one of the most respected names in the industry. It’s been an incredible journey, from teaching myself in a small workshop to working for some of the best names in the business. I can’t wait to see what lies ahead.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! Haha There have been many setbacks and obstacles along the way. Lots of learning things the hard way and making firewood. Very, very expensive firewood. All of my mistakes along the way helped me become the guitar builder and designer that I am today, and I’m grateful for the experience.

I design and build custom electric guitars, specializing in crafting instruments that blend timeless aesthetics with modern innovation. My work is rooted in a deep respect for craftsmanship, and I take pride in creating guitars that are both functional and beautiful. Every instrument is a reflection of my dedication to quality and design.
I’m known for creating guitars that feel custom-tailored to the player, with thoughtful details like unique inlay designs, ergonomic contours, and finishes inspired by iconic Southern California landmarks.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the impact my guitars have on musicians. Seeing a player connect with an instrument I’ve made—whether it’s on a small stage or a world tour—is incredibly rewarding. What sets me apart is my ability to combine artistry and engineering, creating guitars that are as inspiring to look at as they are to play.
For me, it’s not just about building guitars—it’s about creating something that inspires creativity and brings joy to others.
