Conversations with Rachel Bellinsky

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Bellinsky.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was very young, a psychic at a birthday party told me I would spend my life looking for beauty, and she wasn’t wrong. I’ve been drawn to the arts since childhood, from music to photography to graphic design. I’m self-taught in all areas, and while Graphic design is my bread and butter, photography and music is still an important part of my creative expression.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like so many people, I’ve struggled with confidence and mental health, but managed to be creative in between the noise. My biggest challenge of late has been recovering from a craniotomy in 2020. The surgery was a great success (a tumor was removed to save my hearing) but getting back to work after that is still a challenge. But I’m still going!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What do you do: Graphic design (for money), photography (for expression) and music (for love)

What do you specialize in:
Branding, advertising and photography

What are you known for:
Crying in public and taking too many pictures of dogs.

What are you most proud of?
Doing the scary things! This includes creative endeavors, dramatic life changes and inhabiting a body that forever reminds you that you don’t get to keep it.

What sets you apart from others?
I don’t know! Photographically speaking, I’m in a transitional phase, and I don’t know how that’s going to manifest quite yet.

What were you like growing up?
I peaked in the sixth grade. When I was 12, I played my first drum solo during a school assembly, which resulted in a standing ovation in the cafeteria afterwards. I’ve been trying to recreate that event ever since.

Growing up I was a special combination of arrogance and insecurity, with a deep attachment to my family. My 7th grade diary says, “This year, be less sensitive and more funny.” I’m still working on that.
