Today we’d like to introduce you to Roman Lane.
Hi Roman, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started as a brand manager at an NBC affiliate news station in 2017; during the three years I was there, I was able to earn two Emmys, one ADDY, and one Promax Gold award. With these awards, I began receiving attention from different indie labels in LA (HRDRV & Mafiasoul), so I began flying out to direct and film music videos for their artists,
Eventually, I was given an opportunity to move to LA and work on the music industry thanks to Patrick “Pkal” Joseph. I lived in LA for a year managing his studio on Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks and filming music videos around SoCal.
I moved to San Diego for a year and started making the transition to songwriting, audio recording, and music production. During that year, I dropped my first EP project, “Euphoria,” which is a house-electronic album featuring well-known songwriter/artist Michaela Shiloh
and many other very talented songwriters, such as THANKYOUMARTINO, Melina Gault, Kymrence Young, and Shannon Brown.
Recently, I’ve released music videos I’ve directed for Kellz, Marlowe, and Merna Zso to name a few. I also dropped my first EP, written, mixed, recorded, and mastered myself called “Celestial.” It’s on all streaming platforms right now. The sound is very Southern California-influenced. Laid back, Sun-soaked pop and r&b melodies with very vulnerable and emotionally charged writing.
Much of my style and sonics are included by LA culture and lifestyle. I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The biggest struggles for me in the past years were my last divorce before I moved to California, my recent breakup in San Diego, and surviving my first year living in LA. From hustling to food stamps, I remember so many nights I went to bed hungry or I had zero money. While I’m far removed from those struggles now, I never forget them. I’m used those moments to fuel my art, write about them and relate to people around the world who have a similar dream of mastering their passions and living in one of the best cities in the world.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m mostly known for my music video work. I started in Louisville, KY where I was able to work with artists such as Jack Harlow, Vory, Kellz, and many others. This all happened after Bryson Tiller signed to RCA, so there was so much momentum in the city and my reputations grew with it. I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time with the right people. I’m mostly proud of my two Emmy’s. I received them for two commercials I filmed and directed a couple years ago. Earning these made me realize how much I could achieve anything and now I have my sights set on a Grammy…
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory were spending time with friends and family in Alabama and then moving to Louisville, where I really began connecting with friends and people, I grew up around for 20 years. I don’t know if there’s one specific moment – but there are a collection of them over that time period.
