Conversations with Sabrina Alvendia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Alvendia

Hi Sabrina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always loved to take pictures. When I was in high school I was lucky to take a class in black and white film photography, we got to roll our own film, develop it and print our own pictures in the darkroom. It was definitely my favorite class.

Over the years I helped with a few family members and friends with photos of weddings or baby showers, but never really got going on actually pursuing it as a “professional”.

Then last year, a friend asked if I would be interested in photographing her sister’s small backyard wedding and I said yes! I had so much fun getting to be creative that it sparked the thought “Hey, I can do this!”. So I decided to just go in full speed and see if I could find my people. I started with a post on Nextdoor, advertising mini sessions for the holidays and was so excited that two families trusted me to photograph them!

I have been so lucky that every client I have had has been so sweet and taken a chance on a new to the industry photographer.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Trying to market myself has been a real challenge. I am not great at talking about myself, and imposter syndrome is rough! Especially when you see so many amazing creatives in your same field. And people understandably want someone with more experience when trusting them with such special memories.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in couples, maternity, family and small wedding/elopement photography! I have loved every shoot I have been involved in and I think that I bring a fun atmosphere for my clients which helps them relax into their sessions so that their photos have a natural feeling to them.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I love scary movies and true crime anything! When editing I usually opt for the movie Scream and I constantly have a true crime podcast playing while driving to as session or scouting new locations!
