Today we’d like to introduce you to Sage Justice.
Hi Sage, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Back in 2009, I joined a fraternity, and they needed someone to help document the events and parties happening on a weekly basis, so I started photographing the parties and posting them to Facebook and MySpace (what a throwback!). A few months later, a local nightlife photographer reached out to me and I got my first gig taking photos of some musicians at a local venue. A year later, I was photographing massive events like Warped Tour and Detroit Electronic Music Festival, where musicians like Skrillex, Machine Gun Kelly, and A-Trak were performing.
A few months later, another photographer reached out to me in an emergency to help be a backup photographer for a wedding, and I instantly fell in love!
A few years later, I moved from Detroit to San Diego to open my business and began photographing weddings and portraits full time.
Fast forward to 2025 – we are now a full service studio offering high-end wedding, family portrait, surprise proposal, and corporate event photography to a wide range of clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not! I encountered lots of scams (wedding directories locking me into tricky contracts and charging me hundreds of dollars a month, where the majority of leads were fake), speed bumps when scaling my business up, and of course Covid (which completely reset my business in terms of my client base and network).
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am known for creativity, connection, and authenticity with my work. Always staying innovative, but making sure to stay close to my original roots, which includes an authentic connection with clients to really bring the best out of them, even under stressful conditions.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I absolutely love the consistent weather and the wide variety of food, locations, and activities all within a small radius.
I dislike the lack of truly healthy food (restaurants that use fresh + organic ingredients, no seed oils, etc).
