Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Moshos.
Hi Samantha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi! My name is Samantha Moshos. I am 30 years old. I’ve always loved photography & capturing beautiful images.
When I was 23 years old, I had my first baby. I wanted to be able to stay home with my child and also have some income coming in.
I decided to buy a better camera with the intentions of taking pictures for families, couples and eventually build my portfolio up enough to get more into wedding photography.
I started taking pictures of my friends & just really getting to know how a camera functions. Way more difficult than I thought it would be. Camera are not just pressing the button and you get a great photo. It much more then that!
I did my research on how a beautiful photo is taken. It includes three things, aperture, iso, and your shutter speed on your camera. In order to be a great photographer you need to know how to adjust all these three setting on your camera without looking. I learned from a great Photographer who said you need to be able to do this with your eyes closed IF you had to.
I set up free shoots for about a year before I started charging anything. Once I started charging it was really $50 bucks a session, now I’m charging way more than that!
I’ve built my portfolio up with so many amazing clients & stick to mostly families, couples and newborn photography.
My goal for photography has shifted over the years, to becoming a bridal photographer & branding photographer. So that’s where I hope my 6 years of learning Photogrpaher will eventually get me to working with amazing bridal companies in the future.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been easy. The photography business is super competitive! I was never able to compete with wedding Photographers who have done this many more years before me. So getting people who trust you to photograph their wedding with little to no experience is really hard!
Couples want and will hire another Photogrpaher based on how many years they have been the Buisness. So my luck for wanting to get into the wedding photography was really low.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in portrait and branding photography. I love to get behind the camera & take pictures of entrepreneurs for their business. For example, a hair stylist. I like to get creative and tell them to bring their hair scissors and themselves & bring their business come to life with them as the center of the shot with their scissors in their hands & then they get to use their professional photos to promote their own business. It’s a win win for both!
I get to do my passion while they get professional photos for their business to show off and grow clientele.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Buy a cheap camera and just do it! Photos are a time stamp, you don’t ever get that moment back.
Learn those three key points to take a great picture & ask everyone to let you practice.
I have a friend who has let me practice on her for years, and still till this day I am always learning and she is my go to person to get creative with. If you have one person who will be in front of the camera while your behind it practicing, you will get there!
