Hi Sonal, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a passion for creating unforgettable gatherings. For years, I found myself drawn to the art of entertaining—not just serving food and making conversation, but crafting complete sensory experiences where every detail contributes to something magical.
What sets my approach apart is my focus on tablescapes. While most hosts concentrate primarily on food and basic logistics, I believe the visual environment transforms an ordinary meal into an extraordinary memory. My friends would often marvel at the atmospheres I created, frequently asking why I didn’t share this talent more broadly.
After years of encouragement, I finally launched Table Tales by Sonal in September 2024. My business specializes in designing custom and unique tablescapes for intimate gatherings—creating immersive, unforgettable experiences through thoughtful decor.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest challenge in my journey has been explaining what “tablescape” really means and how it can transform a gathering. This is a concept that many people don’t realize they need until they actually experience it firsthand. When clients see their humble kitchen or dining table transformed into an extraordinary space they never imagined possible, that’s when the lightbulb moment happens. What I’ve found is that once people experience one of my tablescapes, they immediately understand its power to elevate an ordinary gathering into something magical. It’s about creating that first opportunity to show rather than tell, and then watching as they discover a whole new dimension to hosting.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in custom tablescapes that tell a story and create an atmosphere. My designs go beyond simply setting a table—they create a complete sensory experience where every element from linens and dishware to lighting, florals, and decorative accents work in harmony to complement the occasion, the menu, and the space itself. I transform humble dining tables and kitchen counters into magical settings that elevate the entire gathering, allowing hosts to offer their guests something truly memorable without the stress of planning and execution. I started this journey because I noticed a pattern in how we gather. Most social events follow the same template: food is served, conversations happen, perhaps games are played, and then everyone goes home. But I wanted more. I wanted to create gatherings that linger in people’s memories for weeks, months, even years after they’ve attended.
Finally, I don’t just create beautiful settings—I empower hosts to be more confident in their entertaining abilities by showing them what’s possible in their own spaces, regardless of size or initial appearance.
What matters most to you?
I believe extraordinary experiences shouldn’t be reserved only for grand occasions. I bring the magic of thoughtful design to smaller, more intimate gatherings, proving that even a dinner for four can be transformed into something unforgettable with the right tablescape.
