Today we’d like to introduce you to Sweet Myths. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Sweet Myths started in 2016 with founding members David (gtr.) and Diego (vcls, gtr.). Both lovers of music from many different styles, they were never satisfied with creating and writing in a single genre. They created Sweet Myths with one philosophy in mind to make amazing music no matter the style or genre. With Dylan Farrell (bass.) They wrote their first album Rorscharch (2019) that blended Punk, Prog, Disco, Funk, Jazz into a cohesive 10-song album. Since then, They’ve added John Martinez (drums) to their line up, released more singles, such as their breakout hit Vaush Rad (2020), and performed in various shows and festivals, such as Indie Pop Overthrow Festival and Wonder Bus entertainment. They just released their new single Phantom Limbs on February 24th, 2023.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There have been a lot of obstacles and growing pains throughout our life as a band. The first thing that comes to mind is money and funding which have always been the crux of many of our obstacles. None of us come from wealth, and thus, we have to save whatever we can to release something or make T-shirts to sell at shows. Sometimes we have to consider what shows we can do because gas is expensive. Also trying to compete in a world that thirsts for more content and media but also has a short retention span. That’s not necessarily contempt but that the world is so inundated with NEW THING every 3 seconds it’s hard to make yourself relevant or stand out.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
We are a rock band, a jazz band, a funk band, a disco prog-pop band we will make and write anything that we wanna write we don’t wanna be trapped in one label and while people in the music industry would say that’s not marketable I would have to disagree. I think it’s what places us apart from the rest of our contemporaries. We were born with the playlist and the iPod; we’re used to the juxtaposition of Hit The Lights coming after Paper Bag, and I think a lot of people are used to that too. They wanna see what things we can juggle what styles can we play with the instruments that we have.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
They can come to our shows and listen to our music, you can give us a hug in person if you’d like! To know of our whereabouts, you should follow us on all of our social media and streaming sites. You can look all of that up on our website https://sweetmyths.com
