Today we’d like to introduce you to Urban Royalty.
Hi Urban, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Well, I always had my love for music, but I fell in love with it through acting. Did my first song in the 5th grade, then experimented with recording and putting out buy own music on Soundcloud in middle school after that feedback was good, I took it into high school keeping the sound I admired alive. A lot of my inspiration comes from 90’s RnB, but as of current, I can say the dark RnB sound is what I always look into. “Take Care” Drake, PARTYNEXTDOOR, & Frank Ocean type of feels. My very first recording was recorded off of a Rock Band microphone then I gradually went to my beloved sterling mic that I have today. My music I would say is more on a seductive side. “Sexy Nasty” RnB is what I like to call it. Women play a huge role in my creative process.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road is not as smooth as some may view. It can get lonely, but I thrive off of people counting me out. I had to teach things on my own. Networking was difficult at one point because people weren’t parading me until things started working out for itself. Music today is based off of clout in my opinion and in the Southeast San Diego music scene it’s a lot of us, but we all don’t network and show each other that love like we should so walking through the field alone kind of feels funny. Now what is easy is just having the creativity kind of just flow. A lot of us get into our heads about our creations, so we get hesitant, but I’m at a point now where it’s easy to just create. Let the work speak. 18 I had my first encounter with writing for a huge artist in LA then I made valuable connections with BiznessBoi, Ye Ali, PARTYNEXTDOOR, and more, all just through hard work and drive. For all up and new artists after me, as long as you put your head down and focus and the real ones will find you instead.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer, songwriter, rapper, producer from Southern California. I like to say I’m a feels curator, you know? I’m most proud of making my own way and lane inside of music. I have gotten close with a lot of top artists through my creativity. What sets me apart is that I’m a full-package artist. A 100 percenter. I will produce, write, record, and put the music out on my own. No team, no master plan, no backup.
What matters most to you?
What matters most is my contribution to the art. When I pass, I want people to look at my legacy and be amazed by the things I done but we all will have to just wait and see. As of now, I’m celebrating my newest album A NIGHT TO REMEMBER THAT YOU DON’T, which is on all platforms now.
