Conversations with US Illustrations

Today we’d like to introduce you to US Illustrations.

Hello US Illustrations, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am an artist, and creating illustrations for children’s books is my biggest passion in life. I have worked as an illustrator since early 2000. I started with working on small projects building on my experience and expertise. In the past 20 years, I have worked with individual authors, publishing houses, startups, and nonprofits and created over 100 books. I have created a small creative agency US Illustrations in 2007. US Illustrations is a team of professional female illustrators focusing on children’s book illustrations. We help book authors create compelling illustrations and develop a print-ready book layout and cover design.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I moved to the USA, I had to start everything anew — finding new clients, adjusting to a new culture, learning the language. Luckily, with my husband’s support, I was able to overcome all the obstacles step by step. Gradually, I improved my English, opened an art studio offering art classes. That helped me to slowly build a dedicated client base. Art knows no boundaries. As an illustrator, I am able to communicate with people around the world without a single word!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love creating illustrations for children’s books. I am always inspired by my client’s stories and the motivations behind them. Reading a draft story, then creating a new world full of unique characters and environments is incredibly rewarding and personally meaningful to me. I love every step of the creative journey I embark on with each client.

With US Illustrations, my main focus is on producing high-class artwork. My team and I take great joy in creating compelling illustrations and bringing characters to life. One of the first things we offer our clients is a free character illustration. Before you commit to working with us, we want to show you our creative talent in action. Over the years, we have created hundreds of books with diverse characters – humans from newborns to seniors, pets, and wild animals and magical creatures, and all kinds of animated objects.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my most favorite childhood memories was when I made a drawing, and a family member saw it and offered to exchange it for a chocolate bar. I was 6 years old at a time, and the offer seemed like a dream come true. As my 6-year-old reflected on the experience, it gave me the confidence in my skills and the extra motivation to keep drawing.
