Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Taveras
Hi Vanessa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I first started doing makeup around 9 years ago, after struggling through a difficult time. Makeup became an outlet for me to express my feelings. During my free time I would practice and recreate artistic looks I was inspired by. After that, I decided to go to beauty school so that I could learn makeup professionally. I became a certified makeup artist and have been doing makeup on clients ever since.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Makeup Artistry isn’t always fun and games. We’re our own worst critics and sometimes I can be quite critical of my own work. No one is perfect, but it is something I have to work on.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What I love most about doing makeup is seeing my client’s faces afterwards. They look empowered and their face lightens up with so much joy. It’s like I awoke something inside them that was dormant. I prefer glam makeup looks, but I will do any look my client asks for. I’m most proud of my resilience and my hunger for growth. I’m always practicing and trying out new looks, so that I can give the best of me to my clients.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I use Instagram and TikTok for inspiration quite often. Whether it be another artist’s look or a simple picture of the sky, flowers, etc. there’s inspiration everywhere if you’re willing to look.
