Conversations with Violet H

Today we’d like to introduce you to Violet H.

Violet H

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Violet (red hair ) I was born in the IE / Coachella valley moved to San Diego around 12 years old to start a new life with my mother, brother and step father after my parents had..to say the least,, a rough separation.

My blood father Beau Howitt had been a singer songwriter his whole life, his voice sounds like the singer from the band Melvin’s so I can definitely attribute my voice to him. Nonetheless, my mother supplied me with vocal lessons on and off throughout my life to maintain the beast in which my vocal cords are….
NOW my band @12GAUGETRIXIE how did this happen? Well I used to be in an all female hardcore band around 16-17 in which I met Mia, my current rhythm guitarist.
We both ended up separating from that old band due to inward drama from the other members. So we decided “let’s bring back some glam rock, some real hard rock, some hair metal shit” so Mia met Art who is my lead guitarist. Art knew Blake (drummer) and I knew Paloma (bassist) and since then it’s been history. Just being a band for a Year and a handful of months we’ve accomplished something grand.
We’ve played all around San Diego, LA, IE, and even went on a mini tour.
Some notable names/ spots we’ve played
– Whiskey a Gogo
– North Park Observatory
– SOMA (side stage and Main)
– Pappy + Harriet’s
– The Rainbow
– The Casbah
– played with Unwritten Law
– played with Starcrawler
– played with SprayAllen
And many other Venues / amazing other bands
We have 4 singles released on Spotify and a YouTube music video as well as plenty of content on all platforms for people to look at. Instagram is where you can get most updates as well as our website 12gaugetrixie.com
To follow my personal journey you can find me @just.vi0let on instagram (the o is a zero)

An odd thing to some people; I’m an introvert. I’ve been preforming on live stages for 3 years now and I get as nervous backstage every time before I’m about to play just as if it was my first performance. HOWEVER I do not let my shy timid side get to the best of me. I’m LOUD and very BOLD. I like to laugh and I love people, and by god the way I move and scream at people on stage definitely defys the label of an introvert. I interact with the crowd, yell at them to move, dance, mosh and get closer to the stage. Don’t believe me? Well go check out some videos and pictures that alone will show ya what I mean.

Why did I mention this?
Well often not, people will congratulate me after a show with an odd compliment
“Holy shit Violet that was great, idk how you can do that I could NEVERR do that! I would get so nervous / I’m an introvert”

And I want people to know…that’s sorta an excuse to not want to put yourself through an uncomfortable situation. You can do this. The deck of cards are in your hands
Now how are you gonna play it?

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There’s so many obstacles when it comes to the music industry. First off if you’re in a band you have a group of people you need to take care of, listen to, support and call them out. There’s often disagreements however a band that will last are a band that doesn’t conspire against one another. A band that can have an argument and come back the next day and admit faults. That’s how a successful band works.

Also, the age we live in carries a lot of judgement. The world has always had judgement but now it is at an all time high due to the easy access of phones and social media we all have. Experiencing hate from this will happen as long as you’re in the public eye. It can be ruthless people don’t hold their tongue or even think about the comments/ DM’s they will send. I’ve gotten death threats just from people who don’t like me, edited pictures, texts, rumors, And the worst is the people who you knew in real life turn on you, go follow the hate train and post ill things about you then come back after the hate dies down and come to your shows again.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
