Conversations with Zachary Coleman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zachary Coleman.

Hi Zachary, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always been interested in sound and music, introduced too both by my father at a very early age. As a toddler having a microphone set up in front me so he could record us while we’d jam out on various instruments, sometimes with multiple mics, and play it back to us after really ingrained my passion for audio engineering from the start.

Naturally, i went on to study Music Theory, and picked up a job at Palomar College as proctor, and helped with several digital production classes, teaching students ProTools, Reason, Finale, and Kontact; all digital audio production programs and tools used in the field.

Multi Platinum heavy metal band Megadeth happened to open a studio near the school, and being in the area I ran into the bands song writer and frontman Dave Mustaine, and started an internship with him at his Mustaine Music Studios at the location known as Vic’s Garage. After about 6 months or I was given the position to manage studio. Having this position for nearly a decade I did projects of all kinds, working with multiple studios, brands, photo shoots, producing other bands, and everything in between including helping with the mix on the live disc for Peace Sells 25th Anniversary, engineered Sudden Death that was featured on and recorded for the video game Guitar Hero 6 that also the 1st song I engineered that got nominated for a grammy,

While managing Megadeths studio I also engineered the album Thirteen which contained Sudden Death as well as Whose Life is it Anyways, and Public Enemy no.1 that all 3 received Grammy Nominations for, and helped engineer the next album Super Collider as well.

I currently am still recording bands in studio, and do live production for events of all types around the world under Z Audio Co, LLC. with my a recording studio based at 2244 S Santa Fe Ste B2 in Vista Ca. As well, I also do in house recording, editing, and videography for the leading wealth management firm LPL Financial.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Its never a smooth road. The key is perseverance, Not letting a bumpy road cause a detour and keeping on the path you set yourself. If its a dream, a true passion, that drive just doesn’t go away.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As an audio engineer i also record and create music. One album, SLEEP, takes the listener through the 7 stages of sleep inspired for yoga and trancing. Ive also been in various bands over the years including the metal band Holy Tyrant, a punk band called No Policy, a free jazz band named PEA and various other music projects. I don’t like to be pigeon held into creating one type of music and take inspiration from many different facets of life.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
A Huge shift Im watching happen right now is adapting with AI. Its not about AI taking over, its about utilizing AI is a tool to enhance and progress your work flow. its all about how you use it, and is soon to be a standard.
