Conversations with Zachary Lefevre

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zachary Lefevre.

Hi Zachary, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello! Thank you for sharing my story and for being a consistent supporter of my creative journey. I started writing for a San Diego-based music blog called EDM Identity in 2015. With EDM Identity I was able to work as media at tons of events and festivals like Coachella, Lightning in a Bottle, Outside Lands, and so many more.

In 2017, I worked a New Year’s festival in Tahoe called SnowGlobe. This was the first event I ever photographed. I fell in love with festival photography immediately. Capturing the energy of the artists, joy of attendees, fashion, landscape, and everything in between. I knew I found something special.

On my flight home I made an Instagram called flipside_photo and posted my first photo. I started chasing live music and photography. After awhile, I started to expand the services I could offer.

Video, editing…got a drone (Part 107 licensed, highly recommend!). I was no longer just a photographer so I rebranded.

Connection is at the core of my business and philosophy. The people…are everything. Intro, Six Degrees Creative. Based on the Six Degrees of Separation. Everyone in the world is connected through no more than 6 intermediaries. Flower of life branding. It felt right and I’ve grown with it ever since.

I’m so proud of what I’ve accomplished. I have so much more to room to grow! But, equipped with so many more skills. It’s a business, a project, a challenge, but it’s my bb. Thanks for being here!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road, but it has been my road! Burn out is very real. I have gone between freelancing full time, to full time work and part time freelancing. Finding a balance that works for me is what I am constantly striving for now.

Even if you love something, life is hard, and burn out can and will happen. I just want to generally be happy and at peace. Also, there is truth to what they say…comparison is the thief of joy. I’ve been keeping that in the forefront of my brain lately. Have fun. Work hard. Surround yourself with people that care about you. Good things are coming!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I consider myself a creative. I started with writing and photography, but grown to love video editing and flying drones. I am learning to fly FPV drones which I hope to fly at festivals someday! I’ve been able to shoot at Red Rocks for Crooked Colours and Don Carlos as well as connect with so many of my other favorite artists.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I kind of touched on it in an earlier answer, but be kind to yourself. Be your biggest fan. Find a balance that works for you. Have fun. Work hard. Surround yourself with people that want to see you succeed. Don’t be afraid to fail. Take a risk. Take a chance. Make a change. And break awayyyyyy.
