Today we’d like to introduce you to Alana Byrd.
Hi Alana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In the midst of our first COVID lockdown in 2020, I decided it was time to get creative with my time as it was readily available and the days seemed to be much of the same. I remember sitting through zoom classes and wondering when our time locked up in our houses was going to be over. I took time into my own hands and drove to a little flower field about 5 minutes from my home. This is where my realization for my love of flowers began. I picked and picked vibrant, happiness filled ranunculas abundantly and questioned what I could do with them.
I went home created flower-filled bouquets and delivered them to the people who belong to a beautiful place in my heart. With the power of social media, I was able to showcase my designs and bring to light one of God’s most natural forms of love. This was especially important in the very uncertain times we were living through. The beauty of flowers creates happiness in any room, and that is what I strive to achieve every time I am present and designing with flowers. Any way that joy can be spread, I am inspired and more than delighted to be a part of that beautiful process, this is my pure intention for the creation of FLORAE.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Although my business is less than a year old, I have to say the process in developing new and unique ideas is a process within itself, full of lessons and growth. I am grateful to have amazing support from my parents and family, as their profession in the business realm of things is helpful in determining different business approaches. I am currently a full time college student, so I am having to juggle between class work and floral designing. These experiences are super important in growing as a person and business owner. I know that I am able to gain so much from it. I take these struggles as lessons that will only benefit my future, and for that I am so soo grateful.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have always known that I wanted to do something that involves designing things. I jumped into the world of florals and love that I am able to play and work with such pretty things regularly. I love to create stories through flowers, you will see this in my use of colors and textures. I am most proud of my ability to capture themes all while using mostly flowers in my designs. I want to create an art piece in each and every floral arrangement I design.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
If you enjoy doing something, DO IT. If you can create a business doing something you enjoy, DO IT. Running a business is full of trials and errors, but with that comes growth, don’t be afraid to experience it. Take advantage of social media platforms and post the things you are passionate about, You will often times find many people who are interested in what you do, this was huge for me!! As you begin the process it is important to be your own biggest supporter. 🙂
