Daily Inspiration: Meet Alejandra Valenzuela and Gustavo Quiñones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandra Valenzuela and Gustavo Quiñones.

Hi Alejandra and Gustavo, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Mystic Heart was born as an illustration project during the 2020 pandemic, Gustavo and I have always been drawn to horror and mysticism themes. We have known each other since design school so we are used to work together. We have a lot of things in common, especially music, so we decided to make illustrations from a band’s perspective, even the name (Mystic Heart) and the aesthetics are inspired by our favorite bands.
Moving forward we have been able to collaborate with different retail companies specialized in clothing, small businesses and even local bands.
What started as a hobby has become our main source of income and our passion.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We think our main struggle was not having enough skills to represent our ideas on paper, this project has taught us to be patient and focused. Something that has also helped us is to focus on our career and move forward at our own pace. Make mistakes as many times as necessary, it’s part of the process.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are an illustration studio founded in 2020 by Alejandra Valenzuela and Gustavo Quiñones. Focused on visual arts and illustration, specialized in making graphics for the fashion industry. Our work reflects themes such as mysticism with a touch of self-love in a black and white style. We get inspired by music, horror movies, anime and we love to experiment with new art techniques.
Every day is a new learning experience, but we are proud to see how with our skills, we can make a living from what we are passionate about.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
We take inspiration from music, movies, manga, anime, toys, in fact we consider ourselves collectors and it’s important to broaden your horizons and appreciate all forms of art. You can always find something that inspires you in the place you expect the least.
