Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Richard.
Hi Alyssa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I learned/started pouring candles in 2004 when I was working as an instructor at an adult day program for intellectually disabled adults. I was researching art & crafts activities for my class of participants to try and came across a really simple way to make votive candles out of Dixie cups! After that, candlemaking for me became a hobby that I enjoyed doing every day. I made so much of them I started giving them away as gifts.
In 2019, during the pandemic and after leaving my career of working with the disabled population, I needed extra cash and decided to turn that hobby into an online business. Little did I know how successful the business would be today!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’m a single mom of two beautiful daughters whom I homeschool. One of the biggest challenges that I face is maintaining balance and finding time for myself. I went from working 8 hours a day to 24 hours a day! 🙂 Having a business is a full-time job, for sure.
