Daily Inspiration: Meet Armando Casillas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Armando Casillas.

Hi Armando, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raise in San Diego, CA; I’ve been a Chula Vista resident for the majority of the time. Happily married with three amazing kids, I enjoy sports and going down a mountain using my MTB. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. I have more than 13 years of experience in Retail, E-commerce and excited to be a business owner together with my wife, who has been an important part of this journey.

Here is a quick story on how we start this journey.

Our dream started off as a usual husband and wife conversation. The topic was “Super Powers,” and how could we use these superpowers to create something we would love and enjoy from day 1. After analyzing and strategizing, we found that our superpowers and passion aligned with embroidery. We enjoy talking and engaging with people; we are customer obsessed and believe that quality should come before quantity.

Choosing Our Business Name – Our name had to be meaningful, motivational, something that will represent who we are and where we are heading.

Our last name is Casillas, and when I was a little kid, my grandpa, who I called “TATA,” would always joke about our last name. He would say that our last name in the English language meant “Little Houses.” This is something that, until this day, I remember. This is how we decided to choose our name and put a uniqueness to it, and that is how “LittleHouz Designs” was born.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There’s been a variety of challenges; the biggest challenge has been having a full-time job (myself and wife), three kids, and managing a business. However, this is something we knew, and in order to reach our dream and goals, we had to learn how to manage our time effectively and remain consistent. Another challenge was the learning curve you get when you start something new. We decided to start our process, “REVERSE,” to what embroidery business usually do. We decided to learn the software (logo/digitizing) first before learning the machine itself. Learning the software front is very complicated at first, but we knew that acquiring this knowledge first would allow us to offer higher quality products, more flexibility, better turnaround time, and better pricing. Once we had this down, we started to learn our machine, this was a lengthy process, but we are a business that is focus in quality and customer satisfaction. So far, it has worked.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are an embroidery business who offers customization to all types businesses and individuals. We embroider all types of garments like hats, shirts, polos, hoodies, crewnecks, and more. We assist with logo creation, digitizing, and finally, embroidering to garments. In addition to this service, “LittleHouz Designs” is a brand on its own; we create our own unique designs, we allow customers to personalize them by adding something meaningful to like a name or date, making it unique to the customer.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In the next 5-10, our goal is expand and open our first shop. Offer more services, like shirt printing, and start executing our long-term ideas that will innovate the embroidery industry.
