Hi Ashley , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a third-generation hairstylist, so in many ways my story started long before I ever picked up a brush. My grandparents owned a salon in Mission Hills in the 60s, and I grew up surrounded by the energy, creativity, and connection that this industry brings. That foundation shaped everything for me.
I officially started my career in 2001, and in 2026 I’ll be celebrating 25 years behind the chair — a milestone that feels both surreal and incredibly meaningful. Over the years, I’ve worked in many environments, experienced the highs and lows of salon life, and learned firsthand what truly makes a beauty space feel elevated, intentional, and supportive.
That journey led me to create Certified Vixen™, my coastal-luxury salon in Solana Beach. What began as one chair and a vision has evolved into a full brand ecosystem: luxury hair services, community events, wellness-focused offerings, and digital education for beauty professionals. I wanted to build a salon experience that honors my family’s legacy while reimagining what modern beauty can feel like — refined, warm, empowering, and deeply personal.
Today, Certified Vixen is more than a salon; it’s a lifestyle brand and a space where women can feel seen, confident, and taken care of. And while my team is still growing, I’m incredibly proud that we’re a collection of women who truly respect and support one another. Even after nearly 25 years in this industry, I feel like I’m still just getting started.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has definitely not been smooth. I’ve built my entire business by bootstrapping every step, which means there was never a safety net — just resourcefulness, determination, and a commitment to creating something better than what I started with. Balancing entrepreneurship with parenting, especially raising a child with special needs, added a layer of complexity that forced me to grow in ways I never expected. There were seasons where I was juggling therapy appointments, school meetings, clients, and a business that needed me around the clock.
The pandemic was another major hurdle. Like so many in the beauty industry, I faced unexpected closures, financial uncertainty, and the emotional weight of wondering if the business I’d poured myself into would survive. Rebuilding after COVID took not only strategy, but resilience and vision.
Along the way, I’ve dealt with the typical challenges salon owners face — staffing, finding the right location, navigating growth, and creating an elevated client experience without compromising my values. But every challenge has shaped the way I lead, the way I design my business, and the environment I’m building for my team and clients. None of it has been easy, but all of it has made the journey more meaningful.

I’m a luxury hairstylist and salon owner specializing in soft, natural, coastal-inspired color and healthy, wearable hair. I’m known for creating elevated yet effortless looks and for the refined client experience at Certified Vixen™. What I’m most proud of is building a brand that blends beauty, wellness, and genuine care — and doing it while staying true to my values. What sets me apart is my focus on long-term hair health, my 25 years of experience, and the intentionally calm, luxury environment I’ve created for both clients and my growing team.
