Daily Inspiration: Meet BitterGlow The Band

Today we’d like to introduce you to BitterGlow The Band.

BitterGlow, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
BitterGlow is an alternative emo band of silly guys who make sad music. What started out as a little solo project blossomed into a whole group of friends having fun making weird fun songs. The silly guys consists of the guy who started the project – Kyle Montilla, Jimmy Curtis, Jovani Bell, and Axl Dang. The band is just a melting pot of frustrated musicians who made songs that didn’t fit in previous projects and bands that fell out and/or had since lapsed. Now we’re just creating whatever we feel like is enjoyable and sounds cool for us.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been a long time coming for this project to be the way it is now – finding people who would actually want to be in a band and commit to it, creative and personality differences, burnout, and quarterly bouts of exitential crises and impostor syndromes. How it is now has been the most stable this project has been, and the only real struggles are coordinating schedules and the bouts of impostor syndrome and existential crises. Also getting sick a lot.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Musically we have differing influences of the same flavor. A lot of 90s alternatives, 2000s pop punk, post-hardcore and emo. Somehow it all just colludes into the songs that we’ve been able to create and release so far. We’re always thinking about the pacing and structure that kinda makes sense and moreso sounds cool and excites us at the moment. For our live shows, we’re always considering the vibes and how the venue is structured in regards to our setlist and our dynamics with playing. Otherwise, we just do anything that would be funny for the bit.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Don’t be afraid to suck, accept failure, practice with a metronome, enjoy the moment, drink lots of water and tea, wear earplugs, and – most importantly – JUST HAVE FUN! If it ain’t fun, it ain’t worth it.
