Daily Inspiration: Meet Brittney Poyuzina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Poyuzina.

Hi Brittney, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
From as early as I can remember, I’ve had a desire to create. And while that was clear, the method in which to do so has been a journey of discovery. It was difficult to find my path as a young adult, so I avoided it and tried to cope with methods that were unhelpful and stifling. I’ve since grown into myself having been free from alcohol for almost 5 years. During this time I’ve been able to truly explore how to express myself with more clarity. Helping a good friend with her creative business inspired me to pursue my own. I have since been working to perfect my craft in resin jewelry and embroidery inspired by nature. I also sell vintage and upcycled clothing for the everyday priestess.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
As a new business owner, there have definitely been ups and downs. Most of my struggles have to do with having the confidence to continue, even though it can be difficult learning what works and what doesn’t. There’s a quote by Henri Matisse that resonates, “Creativity takes courage.” I think it’s important to keep learning by listening to the feedback of patrons and other sellers. Continuing to discover and grow in my business is my goal, and being successful at it is my dream.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My shop and my work provoke a spiritual connection to nature, thus the name High Priestess Habits. We can all find our own power through communion with nature. My resin jewelry and embroidery are inspired by these elements. With resin, I incorporate foraged plants and flowers as much as possible. My goal is to produce pieces that emanate healing and grounding properties. With the embroidered pieces, I focus on images that inspire concepts of ancient magic. For example, my lemon embroidered pin represents prosperity with the idea that you may wear it to help manifest this into being. I also sell vintage and upcycled clothing that spark boho and witchy vibes. What sets me apart is my attention to detail and commitment to providing quality products. Everything handmade is crafted to last, and every piece of upcycled clothing is in great condition.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I like that our city has a lot of venues for makers, with new opportunities springing up everyday. That being said, this is a saturated market, so it’s important to find your niche to stand out. I’m currently working towards finding that.
