Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Jannette Gonzalez-Guerra Delgado.
Hi Carla Jannette, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
For me, life is spiritual. Every breath, connection, plant, animal, tree is sacred. In every moment, there is an opportunity to remember that we are all interconnected, like a web, to everyone and everything, and we can make it sacred by learning to see through the eyes of the divine… by learning to see the divine in all.
My spiritual journey started as a child, I have always felt deeply connected to God, Jesus, and spirituality. I started my years in Baptist and Christian private school here in San Diego.
In 6th grade, I distinctly remember learning about Buddha and reflecting to myself how I wanted to attain enlightenment and Nirvana, even at the tender age of 11.
But something happened to me in my teens that left me feeling disconnected to God, to my faith.
Around 13, I experienced and witnessed domestic violence and alcohol abuse in my home. Not knowing how to cope, I turned to partying, drugs, and escapism in my teenage years. I tried everything I could get my hands on and considered myself a young Nihilist and wanted to follow in Jim Morrison’s shoes.
Eventually, in my mid-twenties, things got so bad that I had no choice but to do something about it. I started my healing path in college, and I graduated from UCSD with a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology.
Then my love for yoga and travel led me to Thailand and India. I became a yoga-certified teacher in 2013, and I learned about Ayurveda and Chakra Psychology for the first time. Little did I know at that time that my deep passion for the healing arts would lead to my write my own book and create a healing program on transforming one’s life through the system of the Chakras …. For those of you that don’t know, the chakras are energy centers that are superimposed onto the body and are responsible for different aspects of our psyche and bodily functions. Ayurveda is the medical science of India that accompanies yoga. Yoga works on the body, aka the physical body, but also the emotional and spiritual, and it does this through the system of the chakras.
In 2015, I returned to San Diego to teach yoga and continue to develop my studies. I decided to get my Reiki Level 1 Initiation, and training. This activation increased my intuition and catalyzed my spiritual growth. My connection to my inner voice, and my intuition, got stronger. My dreams became more vivid and my connection to the subconscious and unconscious realms started to increase. I literally started to feel energy and my gut feeling / inner knowing got so strong that I could longer ignore the signs that I needed to transform my life.
I truly believe that that Reiki initiation catalyzed my growth and helped me align me to my true path more quickly. That same year, after I moved to Cambodia that summer in 2015, I discovered Kundalini, Breath work, and Shamanic Tantra Dance and Meditation,
In those first years of my path, my life at that moment was quite paradoxical, even though I was experiencing spirituality in a new way and I started connecting to my higher self, I was also experiencing intense confusion and anxiety about the relationship I was in, and where my life headed. My higher self could see the path of where I wanted to go, but I was still stuck in some negative patterns and addictions. I still had a lot of healing to do around my past, my family, and my self-worth.
This was truly the start of my second life. Those times were the birthing ground of what was to come… My prayers were being answered subtly, and all the tools that I now work with started to awaken in me and come online. It’s also around that time in 2015, I also started working with Cacao, pure chocolate, as a sacred plant medicine, and learned about the Goddess and the Moon calendar. Intuitively, I started creating sacred rituals, writing poetic prayers, and working with the spirit, the sacred feminine, and the unseen realms. It was during this time, I entered what is known as the mystery schools.
These practices truly helped me change my life, they helped me awaken to my inner power, and so I could leave behind my old patterns and addictions. They helped me manifest my dreams and align more quickly to my true path and purpose. These different spiritual paths and teachings showed me how to be spiritual in a way that was true to my heart. Now I get to create art that is healing and that has the power to transform another’s life. These paths helped me remember that nature is sacred, as are we. I healed my family trauma, by adopting mother earth and father sky as my family. And because nature is beautiful and perfect, I realized that so were we.
After a year out in Southeast Asia, I eventually I broke up with my partner, came back to the USA. It was in 2016 when I started learning more about indigenous and earth-based spirituality. That same year, my desire to learn more about Cacao Ceremonies led me to Guatemala in 2016 to connect with the Mayan lands of Cacao and the magic of Lake Atitlan.
In Guatemala, I did my 300hr Yoga Teacher Training at the Mystical Yoga Farm and learned how to work with the medicine wheel of the high Andes. It was at the lake that I also found my voice and I learned how to sing. And it’s where I was initiated into a Woman’s Empowerment leader, and for me that marked the moment I decided my purpose was to teach others, women, how to heal and love themselves.
That next year, as soon as I landed back in San Diego, I got offered an opportunity to offer New Moon Cacao Ceremonies at Trilogy Sanctuary in La Jolla. Eventually, I also offered women’s circles and ecstatic dances there. I loved my time there, and I am so grateful for the 3 years I got to grow and expand in their community space.
Once the pandemic hit, everything changed obviously, since then, I have been teaching online. I developed my Chakra Healing Program and wrote the book that goes along with it. Through this program, I get to teach others how to heal themselves, and others. I help others remember how to connect to the elements, nature, and their own nature and spirit.
Even after years of self-healing, I still experience Anxiety, Depression, and PTSD from my childhood and past relationships. Life’s journey, and our healing and evolution, is cyclical. In our life we will many times we revisit the old story or pain (trauma) we are healing in new ways. It is during these revolutions that we learn how to respond in new ways, and therefore create new neural circuitry and emotional responses.
I truly believe that plants and earth medicine have the power to heal us. A couple of years, I was led to Peru, where I connected to my dear teacher Zadir Milla whom I have been studying shamanism, marriage and family counseling, and plant medicine ceremony integration ever since. I’ve also gone to the jungle multiple times to diet, which is a specific type of spiritual cleanse with the plant medicine of Ayahuasca that is from the Amazon, and have been walking the plant medicine path ever since.
A lot of what I learned came to me when I was in the most challenging moments of my life. I met God when I finally hit rock bottom. I remember to this day the moment I finally surrendered the war against myself and asked God to help me. That’s when all the tools and teachers showed, that’s when my new life path revealed itself. It was after that, that my passion and purpose became clear, to heal and empower myself, my brothers, and sisters to truly LOVE themselves. Why? Because, it is only true LOVE that has the power to heal, and transform lives. It is love, it is devotion, to service and the true Self, that guides someone to awaken their sacred gifts and innate divine powers. It is through healing ourselves, in other words, LOVING ourselves, that we come to learn how to help others heal and love themselves too.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been easy. A lot of my strength has come from moving through difficult initiations. Family trauma and addiction, has been a journey. I have had to find the light many times, even when it felt impossible.
