Cesar Tellez, better known by his stage name Crhymes, is a recording artist/producer/engineer/videographer that runs his own 32 track studio from Southeast San Diego, California. He is also one half of the rap duo Tha COR. An accomplished freestyle rapper, Crhymes is known in the rap industry for both his history of high profile collaborations and his rapid, heartfelt and inventive delivery.

Growing up in dope houses, foster care and juvenile detention centers, Crhymes found refuge from the savage street life in music. In 1999 He became a regular at Dadit Entertainment’s studio, owned by Mein Dahn and Harry Webb, gaining crucial engineering and production skills. While also interning for Beau Hart and Rob Herring at Stingaree Studio in Downtown. When Mein Danh was murdered in 2002, Harry and Crhymes both vowed to “follow the music to the end.”

Crhymes joined forces with Sicko Records in 2003-05 and again in 2013-2016, appearing on multiple tracks, A duet album with Local legend Mr. Lil One, gaining more contacts and exposure in this rap game. Citing creative differences with Mr. Lil One, Crhymes left Sicko to concentrate on Tha COR with Brandon “BGinus” Guaderrama. Only to eventually fly on to a budding solo career.

2005 saw his involvement in the founding of Internet Rap Radio station DagoSD.com. In 2007, Tha COR released the album “The Next Level of This,” which featured bay area legend Keak Da Sneak on the hit track “Do My Thang.” The song enjoyed some regional radio play on San Diego stations Jammin Z-90 fm and Blazing 98.9fm and also on Palm Springs U-92.7.

In 2008, Crhymes began collaborating with his childhood idols and Grammy/American Music Award Winners Bone Thugs n Harmony. They recorded many songs together and were even offered a deal with Mo’ Thugs Records. But Crhymes did not take the deal and decided to take the advice he got from independent mogul Tech N9ne instead, “Build your own brand!”.

“One Breath Closer” Crhymes first solo effort, which featured Bizzy Bone was released in April 2010. Crhymes also was invited to be a part of the “Latin Lockdown/Latin Unity Tour” 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015 & 2016, where he opened up for Chicano Rap Legends Lil Uno, Lil Rob, Kid Frost, NB Ridaz & Lighter Shade of Brown just to name a few.

They blazed their way throughout Arizona, New Mexico and ending in California. They teamed up again the next year, The Self-made Self-Paid World Tour which kicked off Oct. 14th 2011, in Arizona.

One was in Arcadia, where Crhymes opened up for Jayo Felony and the other was near Downtown L.A. where he opened up for The Beat Junkies and BoBo of Cypress hill. Since 1999, Crhymes has opened for many big rap artists such as Redman, E-40, Tha Alkaholiks, Crooked I, San Quinn and many others.

He shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. In 2012 he created his own company “Crhyme Mate Entertainment”. That same year also launched his clothing brand “Aliens In The Hood”. That was shortly after going viral, when he captured what seemed to be a UFO at the filming of one of his music videos. The story landed him a segment on Travel Channel’s “Paranormal Paparazzi.” Also, it landed articles on Rolling Stone, HuffPost and most the local San Diego publications as well.

Crhymes released “Thuggery: A Near-Death Experience” featuring Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Bizzy Bone & Layzie Bone at the top of 2018; that project is currently enjoying local radio play on Tim Pyles Sunday night program “Loudspeaker Show” on 91x FM.

As the pandemic first hit in 2020, Crhymes released a project of unreleased demos called “Tu Decades: The Demo Tresures” to keep the fan base feed and to give time to work on new material. The project “Tu Decades” also had a song called “Tha Outro” on it, which was nominated for “Best Hiphop/Rap Song of the year” at the 30th Annual San Diego Music awards. Crhymes is also up for “Best Local Hip Hop Artist” of the year in this years San Diego reader “Best of” issue. Votes for that end on September 20th.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Many obstacles from being born to a heroin-addicted mother. To going to foster care and being abused physically, mentally and sexually. Then returning to my mother’s only to be living in complete poverty. As a teenager, I was nearly killed and seen many of my people get killed. For some reason, I survived all that and now am doing great and chasing my dreams.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a recording artist, engineer, producer and videographer. Just a man of many hats. But my passion is rap. What sets me apart from others is my hard work ethic and ability to network and create with big name rap stars on my projects.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is simple happiness. Doing what I love how I want to do it is the best feeling ever.
