Today we’d like to introduce you to Cora Truelove.
Hi Cora, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My art wouldn’t have been what it is today if it wasn’t for my mother.
Diamantina told me that ever since I could hold a pencil, she would have me drawing happy faces, trees, etc. I love and thank her for that, also for her positivity to keep me going. Along with my father, Jeremy. That’s where I get my hustle from.
When I was 11, I was diagnosed with Scoliosis, later on I had surgery, and my health went down from there.
I go through these obstacles of health problems every day, and can’t seem to run away from them.
I told myself one day, “Why run away from your problems? I should stand up for myself and produce great artwork!” And now I have a voice on my social media platforms @Coratruelove on TikTok/Instagram
And @Minimalist Cora on YouTube.
Like I said. I’ve came a long way and completely changed the way I think about life, myself, and my artwork.
I thank God every day for giving me the curiosity, desire, motivation, and the hustle mentality.
I think art is awesome! You know how many textures you can illustrate just with a pencil? Or an eraser? I absolutely love art! My passion for my work mainly comes from the thought of “WOW! What’s next?” Or “How can I show this action portrayed on paper!?” I love to tell stories, show movement, and share my happiness with people!
I am incredibly thankful for everyone who has supported me and has helped me get to where I am my number 1 supporter. Self-love reflects on my work, for sure! I love what I do, and if we were to have a next life… I hope to have gone through this journey again!
I live in a van. I love to travel. I never had lived somewhere more than 2-3 years, growing up in the Army. I can’t stay still; I love to be on the go! During my journeys, I think it’s the coolest part of getting to meet people! I have met so many artists along the way that have showed me different styles, techniques, and more and more love for creating!
Throughout all the ups and downs, I love what I do, and I love life itself. They go hand in hand. Am very thankful for everything that has happened, is happening, and for what’s coming to me! All in my hands, abundance, and graphite.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My health problems are a huge obstacle in my life, but it is myself that gets in the way. It’s me.
Gets tough sometimes, a lot of times, but I get through it every time!
I realize now that my health problems aren’t who I am. I have to set those aside and pick up my pencil because we have some shading to do!
I’m not able to work a “normal” 9-5 because sometimes I can’t even get out of bed. Sometimes it gets bad like that for days. That’s why I think that God gave me this talent, to make money in alternative ways. If there is a will, there is always a way.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I got the majority of my following on social media for going viral with my “Drawing my followers as payasos!” Which are portraits of my followers/supporters in black and grey, with clown makeup on.
I have majority of Mexican/Chicano people on my pages for those videos, and also some of my work that looks like “Chicano Arte”
I am mixed, I didn’t grow up like a normal kid to begin with, moving every year and all. I get a lot of hate because of me being “white” and the haters will say I’m not allowed to create “Chicano Art” when I didn’t even know what Chicano art was. What I love about the voice I have on my social media is to show people different styles of art. For instance, I have been pushing “surrealism” for a while now, and am in love! I love that I influence young artists, and people to start creating art, and getting away from the “norm”
I specialize in black and grey, tattoo-wise, and as for my graphite. I absolutely love the color grey, all the many tones, it’s gorgeous to me and enjoyable.
What sets me apart from others, I say is my personality. I love myself so much! I push and show it through my artwork, so much to where you can visualize just by looking. The pain, the kindness, the hustle, I am one of a kind. I am confident. I don’t see myself for what I am, a woman, a white girl, a Hispanic. I am me, and I am a person who loves to create great artwork and share with others! And is dang good at it!
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Well, A big surprise to people are my medical problems. They don’t typically see that in my work anymore. I have pushed myself to being a better person and overcoming my obstacles, one at a time.
