Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Young
Hi Deborah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
First and foremost, I want to thank you for this opportunity to interview with you. I’ve been to San Diego a few times, and my first visit was actually a high school graduation gift. I had the chance to explore the city’s beauty—the zoo, the bay, the restaurants, and, of course, the incredible museums at Balboa Park. It was a wonderful experience.
Since then, I’ve returned to San Diego a couple of times for San Diego Comic-Con. As someone who enjoys Marvel movies and TV shows, attending events like the Her Universe Fashion Show has been an exciting experience. Every time I visit, I’m reminded of how beautiful the city is, especially during that time of year.
My journey into writing and blogging really took shape in 2020. Like many others, I was at home and looking for ways to stay productive, so I started writing again. Over the past five years, I’ve grown tremendously in blogging—building business connections, engaging with the blogging community, refining my grammar and writing skills, and even learning from challenges, such as retracting statements and issuing apologies when necessary. Through it all, I’ve been focused on improving, growing my brand, and continuing to connect with my audience.
When I first started my blog, my main goal was simply to share my thoughts and connect with others. Now, I write with passion and purpose, hoping that my readers find value in my content. My biggest goal in blogging is to continue making meaningful connections, expanding my audience, and learning from my experiences. Ultimately, I strive to create content that people enjoy while continuously improving both personally and professionally.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My blogging journey has been incredibly rewarding, but it has not always been smooth. I believe it’s important to share both the successes and the challenges so that others pursuing their passion for writing or blogging do not feel discouraged. In my early days, I often posted impulsively, drawing heavily from my emotional experiences and sharing personal aspects of my life. Unfortunately, this sometimes led to unclear or overly candid content that inadvertently offended people. I received negative feedback and even harsh comments, which made me realize the importance of thoughtful communication.
One of the most challenging moments was when I published a blog post that many found offensive and hurtful to a particular community. I took full responsibility by issuing an apology and retracting the post. This experience, along with other missteps in my emails and communications with fellow bloggers, taught me valuable lessons about clarity, professionalism, and the impact of every word I share.
As an introvert who once felt unheard, discovering a community that listens and cares has been both uplifting and transformative. However, I have also learned that the internet can be unforgiving—every post has the potential to be scrutinized and, in some cases, used against you. This reality has motivated me to be more deliberate and considerate in my communication. Today, I am focused on rebranding my work to ensure that it is respectful, clear, and engaging, while continuously growing both as a writer and as a professional.

My blog, ‘HeadphonesThoughts,’ has been my creative outlet for the past five years. As a lifestyle, movie, and TV show writer, I cover a diverse range of topics, and I have welcomed guest posts and collaborations from other writers. My hope is that readers not only enjoy the content but also become part of a growing, supportive community.
I am particularly proud of the opportunities my work has afforded me. I’ve earned press passes to several conventions, including the Her Universe Fashion Show, and have attended numerous events where I’ve had the chance to conduct interviews with fellow bloggers. Additionally, I’ve been featured on other blogs and have received early access to press releases—all of which are milestones I deeply value.
What sets my blog apart is my commitment to honesty and authenticity. I strive to provide truthful, unexaggerated content so that readers know they are connecting with a real person who shares genuine opinions and experiences. I remain true to who I am, rather than conforming to external expectations, and I am dedicated to both growing my brand and building a community that learns and grows together.
