Today, we’d like to introduce you to Domo Jones.
Hi Domo, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Dōmo, and I have a disability that led me to use a walker and leg braces to help with balance. After dealing with surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation, I wanted to target the disabled community by using my journey to show them THEY CAN BREAK THE STIGMA BEYOND OUR CONDITIONS!
I became a Master Certified Disability Confidence Coach, 5x Self-Published Author, and have three businesses. In Aug. 2021, I became the host of the very first disability talk show hosted by someone with a disability called “One Billion Brave!”
My recent business, “KnuYou Services,” stemmed from all the groundwork I learned from my businesses, now helping new small businesses with the custom basics of promoting their brands abroad.
Once I realized my purpose, no hindrance could stop me until it manifested! You can’t tell me it can’t be done because I’m ACTUALLY doing it!!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been smooth, and it still isn’t, actually, but without some bumps in the road, you won’t cherish the journey for me; my biggest struggle is having a physical disability because that leaves me with times when my body shut down.
Often, I don’t know when my body will, have that, so I could be doing great one day getting things accomplished, but then the next day I would have to lay in my bed until my body gets recharged. The unknown of my body needing rest is one of the biggest struggles with accomplishing goals sometimes.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
So, aside from being an author and writer, I’m also a graphic designer, which is most creative on its own, right? What I love about what I do is the freedom to create. People who come to me with ideas that they have in their head, not really knowing how to execute them, and the gift to bring their ideas to life on paper is probably the most gratifying thing for me.
I’m very grateful and always humble, having the creative experience to do what I love and do it with no barriers. I think the proudest moment of what I do is being able to be the graphic designer and content creator for my church, which I kind of fell into an accident. At the time, the gentleman who was over passed away, and there was nobody to do it.
No clue what, I just attempted to try something and just get the job done. I turned into something full-time, and now I can work freely. I also brought clients my way because they saw my work.
Can you talk to us about happiness and what makes you happy?
Everything!
And not to sound cliché, but when you come from a life of hearing from your doctor that you won’t be able to live past nine years old and you’re now in your 30s, you see and value life differently. My lens of what makes me happy stemmed from the smallest things of just being able to get out of bed or being able to do more than two tasks that day.
There was a time when I couldn’t do either, so I came from a place and a perspective. Literally, everything that I’m able to do while I’m still living on this earth makes me extremely happy and grateful.
