Daily Inspiration: Meet Doreene Sico

Today we’d like to introduce you to Doreene Sico

Hi Doreene, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I was young, I always loved to bake cookies or brownies. My favorite shows growing up were mostly cooking shows. It wasn’t until family and family friends would ask me to create custom cookies for their special occasions such as baby showers and birthdays. I did a couple orders here and there and it wasn’t until after Covid happened, I figured I can somewhat make a profit out of what I love to do. It’s been about 4 years of trial and error with all the cookie orders I have accomplished.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not. I think that with every new journey, there are always up’s and down’s. Since I officially started my small business after Covid, it was a bit hard to branch out and attract customers. When I compare the custom cookies, I have done in the past and the ones I’ve done now, I can see how much progress I have made with every single detail. My cookies can be time-consuming especially since I do have a full-time job as well. But I’ve learned that even with every stressful moment, the amount of satisfaction and accomplishment I feel with every order, feels very rewarding.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in custom sugar cookies decorated for each and every occasion. I’ve created custom cookies for birthdays, gender reveals, baby showers, weddings, engagements, bachelorette parties, going away parties, and more. I’m most proud of my progress over the years. I’ve learned to believe in myself more and my creative thinking when it comes to customizing the cookies. I note down my mistakes and plan out how I can do better for the next order. I truly take my time with each order and make sure that it fits and even exceeds my customers’ expectations.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
A lot of my orders come from returning customers which is amazing. I’ve done orders for a wedding, to a baby shower, to a first birthday all within one customer. From those customers, I have received orders from their friends and family. It makes me happy to basically “live” each life experience with every customer.
