Daily Inspiration: Meet Drew Ramsey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Drew Ramsey.

Hi Drew, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Born and raised in Santa Cruz, California, I’ve always had a passion for photography. My mother gave me my first film camera in the summer of ‘97 and since then, I haven’t gone a day without taking a photograph.

I initially took photos of nature, friends and pets and quickly learned the importance of capturing special moments. Freezing time with beautiful smiles is my own version of time travel and only adds more incentive to practice my art.

I’ve always worked in management in the retail and service industry. I am naturally hardworking and was raised with a good work ethic, so I always put my work team and community first. I worked toward creating Drew Ramsey Photography in my private time.

I believe in strong communication, always taking care of your people, solid work/life balance and putting your best foot forward.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being an artist/photographer has its everyday challenges. Coming up with your own workflow, creating your own vision that stands out from the rest, finding new clients and getting your products out into the world is a lot of work.

Being your own brand, you must know your self-worth and confidently sell your services daily which also takes a lot of work and energy.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My photography business is founded on the principles of kindness, artistic expression and professionalism. I find that by working with my clients, listening to their ideas and coming up with a vision together only makes the finished product that much more beautiful and memorable.

Whether it’s your wedding day, graduation, your baby’s birthday (fur babies included) or a special moment, I want to be there. With every photograph I take, I want to encapsulate your happiness and joy.

A few things I remind myself daily:

Be flexible.
Be kind.
Be humble.
Be a good listener.
Be organized.
Stay true to your word.
Go the extra mile.
Transparency is key.

I find that practicing these principles helps me find clients I want to work with.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Having “luck” is a very personal relationship between yourself and the universe. I find myself extremely lucky but I also know I have worked my entire life nurturing and building the relationships I have today that make me feel that way.

It’s important to have someone in your corner, someone to help look at a situation from every angle without the fear of judgment. I am blessed to have these people in my personal and professional life.
