Today we’d like to introduce you to Elvira Zamora
Hi Elvira, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m the founder and designer of Thrifs with deeply rooted in Indigenous culture and bring a unique blend of tradition and innovation to every garment. With a commitment to intentional design and cultural authenticity, I craft pieces that honor our past while looking towards the future.
I arrived in the City of Angels from Peru at 10 years old. I take pride in identifying as a Valley Girl! My journey as a creative began in the San Fernando Valley. Coming from a family of fashion creatives, I started her first fashion business in my father’s tailor shop in 2001. A small women’s boutique that has since evolved into a unisex brand and upcycled 1 of 1 designs sold online. I challenge what can sometimes be perceived by outside spectators as the superficiality of fashion by creating pieces that speak to my culture. Beyond that, I’m also a philanthropist at heart who moves with the intention to give back to the community and other underserved peoples.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The struggle is the over saturation online added with the nuisance of fast fashion taking over the closets of the population.Because of this, it is hard to not only be seen but to compete in a fashion market ruled by overseas cheap labor. All small independent labels like myself have to do more in order to be appreciated and valued, it is not easy, but I rather go this route than contribute to more pollution in the future that will drastically impact our world.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risk taking for me is putting myself and art out there for people to like/dislike and judge, creating is easy for me, having other’s determine the value of my brand is an every day risk. I have been doing it for so long that it no longer has that scary feel but more of a curiosity of who I will meet, and if I will be their next designer brand that they support. I don’t want the message to be the only reason they support my brand but also the uniqueness of the garments as well.
