Daily Inspiration: Meet Emily Coyle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Coyle

Hi Emily, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Prior to starting my business, I always had a camera in my hand and loved taking photos of my friends, my travels, and just everyday life. I started my photography business officially in 2020 in Virginia. I graduated college in May of 2020 and had no other job prospects because it was still the height of COVID. So I took the opportunity and started my photography business after I graduated college. By the end of 2020, I had photographed 8 micro-weddings and multiple engagement photoshoots. In January 2021, I moved to the coast of North Carolina, rebuilt my photography business there, and photographed 40+ weddings over the course of 3 years. I built my business by networking with other photographers and wedding vendors, advertising online, and creating a personal brand through my website and social media accounts. I recently moved across the country to Southern California and am re-building my photography business all over again. However, it helps that I am a bit more established and have way more experience and knowledge in photographing and running a business compared to the first time I started and then moved. I am so excited to see where my business goes while living in Southern California!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not always been a smooth road. I have had to move twice since starting my photography business four years ago, and moving a service-based business is not easy! It’s so much different compared to selling actual products. I have to rebuild my clientele, network with photographers and wedding vendors, advertise a new location and photos on social media, and have to put myself out there! It’s hard work, but so rewarding in moving and growing my business; I learn so much each time.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a photographer specializing in mainly weddings, elopements, and couples, although I do love taking the occasional senior grad photoshoots and branding shoots as well! I’m most known for providing a mix of digital photos and film photos. My photography style would be considered candid, true-to-color, and fun.

I am most proud of the photos I create and the experience I give my clients! I’m here to SERVE my clients in the best way possible. I have guides to give to my clients to answer any possible questions they have about outfits, wedding planning, first looks, timelines, and more. On the day of the photoshoot or wedding, I love reminding my clients that I am here to capture their memories of this moment in time and to not think too much about having a camera in their face. I love giving my clients prompts to follow instead of just “do this with your body and smile here” for the entire time; I love capturing candid and authentic moments instead! This helps to create unique to them and authentic photos that my couples end up loving! I want to make sure my work is for everyone no matter of sexual orientation, race, looks, etc. I strive to make sure my portfolio is diverse in all aspects and that I am a photographer for everyone!

What’s next?
My plans for the future include continuing to grow my business, continuing to provide an excellent client experience, and potentially expanding to more brand/lifestyle photography in addition to weddings, elopements, and couples!
