Daily Inspiration: Meet Emily Esparza

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Esparza.

Hi Emily, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started in high school when I was given a camera for my birthday and eventually, I decided I wanted to express my creativity with everyone else so that is why I decided to create my own photography page on Instagram. I remember when I was little I was so sad because everyone else had a talent like playing some sort of instrument or were good at sports but I always pondered what my passion/talent was. Eventually, I fell in love with photography.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I will be honest it has not been a smooth road. In the beginning, I wanted to get my name out there and let myself be known and I’m not where I’d liked to be. One of the struggles was where am I going to start first? Do I create a website? Social media? I’ll be honest the photography business is very competitive. I learned that you need to be yourself, unique and different to catch people’s attention. I’m also a full-time college student so I wish I’d have a lot more time focused on my photography but I also want to be a journalist/photojournalist.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What I do is tell my story here in San Diego and all the places I visited here in my hometown and spread that awareness of this beautiful place I call home and the places I have also visited outside of San Diego. I have a mixture of themes from bright, spunky, and colorful pictures to very dark tones. It can be very in-themed or just very random at times and I can say that is what my page is all about my unique photos.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
With these past Covid-19 restrictions being enforced and lifted it was hard to go out to places and take photos. At one point I started to get creative with anything I found near me; items in my home. I started visiting places near my home and just snapping away, trying to gather as many photos as I can. I wanted to enjoy the experience of being outside. With that warm sensation of the sun hitting my skin and the camera in my hand, I finally felt at peace.
