Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Pfeiffer.
Hi Eric, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started MPWR Coaching in 2018 from a desire to take the best of all I had learned from years studying under other coaches and build a business that focused on the areas I am most passionate about – Emotional Intelligence. I believe the skills of EQ are more relevant and necessary today than ever and should be available to every person for every area of their life.
I started with a few clients that were willing to be guinea pigs and test the merit of my coaching process. I also invited a few emerging coaches to join me as shadow apprentices who could help me with aspects of the business as payment for their training.
Today, the MPWR Coaching team has grown from 1 to 6 coaches and we have certified many others who are either coaches seeking improved tools and skills for EQ or leaders who desire to increase their contribution within their own businesses. Our client roster has grown from the 2 we started with to over 40 organizations that have experienced one of our coaching tracks. Perhaps the greatest achievement is the high satisfaction rate of our clients who report a significant increase in both their personal and organizational health.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
1. Entrepreneurism – Starting a business is easily one of the greatest challenges I have faced besides raising children. They both require an “all in” mindset and often feel like more work than reward. However, in both cases over time, the results prove worthy of the sacrifice.
2. Belief – It’s very difficult to maintain confidence in the midst of the regular setbacks and challenges of building and growing a business. Financial pressures, training team, securing clients, developing a marketing funnel, etc are a tireless treadmill most of the time. I’m grateful to those friends, family and clients who have believed in our business when we have struggled to believe in ourselves.
3. Pandemic – I may never have started this business had I known a global pandemic was on the horizon! But I have found that even in a pandemic there is a market for quality businesses who are able to flex and adapt to the changing context. Rather than throw in the towel when we ran into a roadblock, we committed ourselves to discovering creative solutions that enabled us to serve clients in innovative ways.
After 3 years (and multiple businesses later), I can say that building a business is easier said than done. The most important question I constantly asked myself for motivation is – Is this worth it? And repeatedly the answer was YES.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
MPWR Coaching is a leadership and culture development business. We understand that people are the engine of any business and how those people operate radically impacts the bottom line. We focus on helping leaders and teams develop the core skills of Emotional Intelligence (EQ), which empowers them to practice self-awareness and self-leadership in order to increase their ability to lead others more effectively.
We are known for bridging the gap between the academic conversations found in most EQ-based books and the practical HOW TO of EQ needed for everyday affairs. We are also known for using simple, memorable, transferable visual tools that create shared language and practices to maximize culture shift. Our approach in training EQ is to remember that good ideas must translate from the head to the heart and ultimately to the hands. In other words, EQ is only as good as it can become a shared value and practice within any environment where people are working together.
We are also unique in that we focus on an immersive coaching experience where leaders and teams learn the core EQ skills in the context of their everyday life and leadership, rather than from powerpoints and seminars. We are only happy when leaders, teams and organizations can witness the shifting of behavioral patterns that reflect an increase in emotionally intelligent mindsets.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories was as a teenager going to Costco with my mom. She was a teacher by trade who loved creating space for me to process various celebrations and challenges I was experiencing at school, in sports, with friends and with my siblings. She asked great questions and listened intently and only offered feedback to help me discover myself and how I might respond to my situations more effectively. This modeled for me the power of coaching and shaped my passion to do the same for others.
