Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Murrietta.
Hi Erika, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey as a cake artist, decorator and baker randomly started during the pandemic in 2020. I took a small beginner class at a local bakery in my town and discovered I had the interest, skill and more importantly, the patience to learn and love cake decorating. As time went on and I practiced consistently at home, what began as a hobby, I quickly became excited to turn into something else.
Now, sitting here in 2025, I feel incredibly grateful and humbled to have been part of countless birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, baby showers, gender reveals, and so many other special moments. Every celebration I get to contribute to, no matter how small my role, feels like an honor.
As my skills and confidence grew, I leaned into my marketing background to build a clientele, beginning with local social media advertising and eventually expanding into surrounding counties. What started as a spontaneous hobby has evolved into a journey I’m truly proud of.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Cake decorating is certainly not for the weak. It has taken endless research, practice, and countless trials and errors and attempting designs I had never tried before and asking for help from decorators whose level of skill I hope to reach someday.
There have been moments when my patience was tested, or fear crept in as an art piece or fondant design refused to cooperate. The challenge often comes from spending hours perfecting a single detail, all in the hope that it becomes something I can truly be proud of. And like most things, we are always our own toughest critics
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Erika Loves to Frost specializes in custom cakes crafted with all-buttercream finishes and detailed fondant pieces that truly bring each creation to life. I create tiered wedding cakes, children’s birthday cakes with bright and lively handmade characters, vintage heart cakes with personalized images and vintage buttercream piping, as well as custom cupcakes.
I am extremely proud of the growth and confidence I’ve gained as a one-woman show, handling every aspect of baking and decorating myself. My husband helps with deliveries, and together we’ve brought countless cakes to events all over. I take great pride in every cake that leaves my kitchen, knowing the time, care, and devotion poured into each one, no matter its size or level of difficulty.
My attention to detail and consistent communication have been key to building strong relationship and a happy, loyal return rate.
What’s next?
My future plans include expanding my business by bringing on an assistant or two and expending the limits of deliveires. I hope to grow my clientele, partner with more corporate clients, and continue elevating the quality and creativity of my cakes as the business grows.
I have been lucky enough to collaborate with brands and hope to continue to do so by showcasing my work and their products.
