Today we’d like to introduce you to Evelin Parker.
Hi Evelin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been a movie enthusiast for as long as I can remember, with a special love for horror films. Some of my earliest and fondest memories were those special Friday nights of either going to the movie theater as a little girl with my family or browsing through the aisles at Blockbuster with my siblings. In those fleeting moments of escape, immersed in the magic of shared experiences as a family, I recognized the profound significance of recreating such memories. It became a dream of mine to one day share these exact moments and create lasting, magical memories with my own family, and that’s when my passion for movie-going and for collecting physical media began.
Fast forward to early 2020, when we were all stuck at home. I decided to start an Instagram to share my collection and my passion for horror. It didn’t take long to realize that there are a lot of people out there who share the same love for film as I do. Within months I had created incredible friendships and before I knew it, my page had quickly grown into the creative outlet that it is today.
That year-long hiatus of yearning only reinvigorated my love for the theater experience even more, so when movie theaters finally reopened, I wasted no time getting back to my seat in front of the big screen. Not only was I reminding my children of that magical experience, but I now found myself sharing it with the world. My page evolved into sharing what films I was watching, and highlighting upcoming releases that I was most excited about.
My account is evergrowing and evolving, as I am constantly inspired to create—from recreating iconic movie scenes/posters, creative photoshoots, and the occasional unboxing and review. But at the heart of it all, one aspect hasn’t changed. And that’s the inclusion and importance of the family bond, what with my husband as my muse and model, my sons more than happy as my little helpers, and my sisters no longer searching aisles and debating movie-night decisions but now contributing to location scouting and project critiques. And all in all, none of this would have ever been possible without my mother’s endless affirmations and constant encouragement. It has always been a family experience and will always be a family experience.
Aside from the support of my friends and family, a lot of this wouldn’t be without the relationships I have gratefully made with my friends and their businesses. Without them, I don’t think this entire journey would have been as fun and fulfilling as it has been.
In addition to my collection, I share my passion for movie theaters and cinema in general. Recently, I started my TikTok to document my theater visits and the films I’m watching. My page has gifted me with the most incredible experiences that I would have never imagined— from horror-themed PR to early screenings, and I just look forward to all of the creativity that comes next.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part, it’s felt easy—and that’s because I genuinely love what I do. It’s always been about having fun and creating what excites me. Opportunities like early screenings or PR have just been a bonus.
The only real challenge has been getting comfortable filming in public. I’m naturally a bit shy, so that’s something I’ve had to push through. But when you’re passionate about something, it really does make the process feel effortless.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in horror and cult cinema—whether it’s through collecting physical media or attending screenings, and then creating visually compelling posts that highlight the culture and nostalgia around these films. What I’m most proud of is building a visual diary that celebrates film as both an art form and a community. I aim to bring attention to lesser-known titles while also celebrating the classics. What sets me apart is my eye for detail and dedication to horror films, physical media & movie theaters —every post reflects my genuine enthusiasm and deep knowledge of the genre.
What matters most to you?
If there’s one thing I hope you take away from my thoughts, it’s this: keep physical media alive. Keep theaters—big and small—alive. Keep the magic of the movie-going experience alive.
In a world that leans heavily into streaming and convenience, it’s more important than ever to choose presence over ease. Visiting your local video stores, libraries, and theaters helps preserve not just businesses, but a culture—a shared love for film that can’t be replicated online.
There are incredible small businesses out there doing amazing things for cinephiles. Places like ReAnimated Records have helped me grow my collection with rare DVDs and horror collectibles, while Popcorn Reef, run by my friend Eddie, brings back the charm of indie cinema with intimate screenings and Q&As with filmmakers. And for a modern theater experience, I always recommend Regal Mira Mesa, my personal favorite.
These places matter. They give us something real. And if we want future generations to enjoy these experiences too, we have to support them now.
