Hernan started his first business by accident. A computer repair company called PC Kruizers after his brother lost his job, and the two had recently purchased their first home at the age of 19 and 20 years old. Even though he had initial success, eventually, that business failed, and Hernan learned some of the most valuable business lessons while shutting down that first venture. Since then, he has been fascinated with learning everything he could about business and marketing.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not a smooth road.

I failed at my first business venture, PC Kruizers, and went broke at 24.

Since then, I went back to school got my degree in accounting, my tax license, real estate, insurance license, and teaching credential in math.

I have had small successes in business, a small tax practice, short career flipping properties, and a venture in building an insurance agency.

Everything was a life lesson, and each venture taught me something that I was missing.

Biggest obstacle was acquiring customers and implementing standard operating procedures.

Like most entrepreneurs, I kept things small to maintain control, but as a result, my businesses would inevitable reach a plateau until I mastered marketing.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Podcasting was my way to build a brand, prospect, and market myself as a professional.

We started in July of 2018. The idea was to get to 1000 episodes as fast as possible in the hopes we would get as famous as Joe Rogan.

That didn’t happen.

Instead, I got better at public speaking. I learned from hundreds of entrepreneurs what worked and what didn’t work.

I slowly built my brand online, grew a small following, and began to provide value to my guests in ways I didn’t really think I would at first.

Initially, we started with “in-person” interviews but when COVID hit, we had to pivot. We started using a streaming platform called StreamYard, and everything changed.

We were able to create a show that looks professionally produced and provided our guests with a podcast experience like no other.

Today, we have built a show that allows us to interview a guest and really capture their story. We then turn that long-form episode into short clips for social media. Coming on our show can provide our guests with as much as 30 days of content, and we share with each guest how they can do that.

Although we don’t have the listenership like Joe Rogan, I am proud to say that even though we do 2 shows per day, Monday-Thursday, we are completely booked 10 weeks in advance. To me that is proof that we are doing something right and are providing value to the entrepreneurs who come on the show.

Just watch the first 2-3 minutes of any of our episodes, and you will see why our guests love the Business Bros experience.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
I don’t “read” much but instead, I love to listen to audiobooks on audible. Mostly business and marketing books, but I also enjoy autobiographies and biological books about successful people from all walks of life.

Some of my favorite books include the Pumpkin Plan, $100 Million Offers, and Outwitting the Devil.
