Daily Inspiration: Meet Isabelle Pineda

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabelle Pineda.

Isabelle Pineda

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’d like to say that I’ve always been a creative and organized individual. Growing up, I was always moving around from state to state, changing different schools and I felt like art was my outlet to unwind at the end of the day and offered me a safe space. I played a couple string instruments including the violin and ukulele, from the ages of 6 up until I was 18. I was always involved in music and creativity whether that was being submerged in orchestra, performing on stage as a singer or dancer, creating videos, or just fidgeting with my hands and creating art. No matter what I was doing, I was creating and telling stories. As I got older, I knew my career would head in that direction. Knowing that, I wanted to pursue a path that allowed me to be as creative as possible, that allowed me to express myself through art and to continue telling stories. And what better way to do that than through being a filmmaker? Through that, I decided to fully invest myself into studying the world and art of filmmaking in college. Ever since my time as a film student, I have grown even further as an artist in stepping outside of my comfort zone, shaping my craft, and telling stories through a screen. In which someday, I hope it reaches an audience that is inspired and moved by my work.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In no way is being a filmmaker or an artist an easy journey. There are a lot of times when your work is taken for granted because they are such personal projects that have individual meaning, and it’s hard to get recognition in an industry that is constantly on the move and looking for the next fresh thing. You are always put in the position of trying to create what stands out the most or what will be appealing to an audience. I think that’s where the majority of burnout comes to play with most artists. As an artist, I am my own biggest critic, and when the final product doesn’t come out how you expected it to, you’re almost forced to just move on and make the next one better. Which can get physically exhausting after spending hours and days on one project.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
Like I said, I study the process and art of filmmaking. My strongest form of art is through storytelling, and as an organized creative, my specialties come at the start of a project when it comes to planning and organizing details and logistics of a production for a film. I mostly Produce, Direct, and Assistant Direct short films, but am always looking to expand my horizons that will enhance my craft as well as working with others.

What sets me apart from others is how I tell stories on screen and my ability to turn my manifestations into reality. I believe that if you send your intentions out into the universe that they will always come back to you. I intend to tell stories on screen that will resonate with people and spread messages to people who maybe don’t feel seen or heard.

I am known for different things in different areas. To some, I am known for my performing background, and to others, I am known for my collaborative work on and off set-in pre-production.

I am currently working on my upcoming documentary that I am directing and co-producing, titled “Fil-Am-Maker” which tells a universal story of the challenges and obstacles that one faces as an artist heading towards a creative industry. In telling this story it’s aiming to bring representation of Fil-Am creatives to the screen and make our stories known. I am also working on producing and assistant directing a short film titled “Take the Shot” which follows a story of a conversation between a photographer and an assassin.

What I am most proud of is representing my Filipino background and culture in my creative identity that continue to inspire me to keep doing what I’m doing. I come from an extremely loving and supporting family that not only encourages me to continue down the path that I am on but pushes me on the path to my success. To my friends and family that are supporting me on this journey, I am forever grateful.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking.
I think that to become successful, you must take the risk to step out of your comfort zone and to put yourself out there. Everyone always says that it’s a lot easier to take risks while you’re younger because you have all your life ahead of you, but I believe that you have the ability to take risks at any point in life in order to accomplish your goals. I believe that risk-taking is a crucial part of your success. It’s all about stepping out of your comfort zone and heading into the deep end with confidence and believing that it’s all going to work out in the end. In order for a risky decision or idea to become successful is to have faith in it. If society didn’t have risk-takers, where would we all be? Risk takers bring knowledge and a greater perspective on things, and as someone who took the risk to go on the path that I am building, I believe everything will fall in place where it’s meant to be.
