Today we’d like to introduce you to Izzy Elhardt
Hi Izzy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started getting into art at a very young age, and always had an attachment to it. I’ve been drawing, doing makeup, and using my camera for quite a while, teaching myself how to do each of those. At first, makeup was my biggest calling, and I still love it, but in the past few years I felt much more connected with photography. Initially I started taking pictures for my makeup, but then after quarantine, I was so much more grateful for the outdoors, and started using my camera for much more. I’m very grateful for photography, as it has been a form of self expression, a way for me to connect with others, and filled a part of me with something I was passionate about.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For a while, I really wasn’t sure what to do. I love art and personal expression, but I had also come across the fact that not everyone would support me. There were people in my life who I believed would encourage me to pursue what made me happy, but I was met with negativity from some of those people. After a while, it made me wonder if I should continue with my work, and I ended up hitting a massive artist’s block in all of my hobbies. However, since I’ve been able to use photography and other forms of art to form new relationships as well as strengthen the ones I already had, I feel more connected with it; I haven’t completely recovered from the artist’s block in my other works, but I am taking the necessary steps with the one that has made me appreciate the world we live in.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love photography and makeup the most of my works, though I also dabble in music, drawing, and recently started taking a ceramics class at my college with Hannah Pierce.
Lately photography has been what I’ve grown most attached to, and I’m really passionate about landscape and nature photos, as they make me feel more attached to those things, so I’d say that’s what I’m “specialized” in, though I’ve been doing makeup and drawing for much more time.
I’m very proud of many of the photos I’ve taken up north, such as photos in Montana, Washington, Alaska, and Canada. It’s so unique in those places, and there’s so much nature to see, especially in Alaska and Canada.
I’m not sure if there’s anything in particular that really sets me apart from other creators, other than my experimental work that I believe many artists try out, however I believe that my deep appreciation of what I take pictures of is unique; art at one point made me feel lonely, but eventually, I believe it saved my life.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m not much of a reader or anything like that, but I love listening to music, and listen anywhere between the mellow jam of indie rock to a wide variety of metal and electric music. Music has always been something I was close to from a young age as well. Other times when I’m not listening to music, I’m probably just looking around me for inspiration.
